Duel Links became a fucking job after a while...which is a shame as the unique format was a good idea and all of the music and other assets were pretty nice.
The skills could have been interesting too had they not been "Make your starting hand more consistent" or "Just have a free Shooting Quasar Dragon".

While yes, the typical MTGroid criticism that the game has some design flaws is partially true (btw it was a shounen manga, not kodomo, Yugi and Joey trade JAV tapes after all) Konami eventually figured out where to go with it after a few sets and the unique mechanics like the Extra Deck and Trap Cards got to shine. The real problems are:
a) They fell asleep at the wheel towards the end of the Pendulum era and the game got too "fast" for what the mechanics can even handle. Decks do too much turn 1 and then other decks HAVE to be hyper consistent and HAVE to spend all of their resources turn 1 to stand a chance which not only leads to the degenerate break my board games, but also very same-y games as well.
b) There's no real comeback mechanic. While Gorz helped with this for a long time, he and his ilk simply aren't enough to deal with an established board if you openly poorly and get your board broken. Most decks simply do not have enough gas left in the tank to get over multiple disruptions twice. I shouldn't have to tell you why this leads to less interesting games.
Still, I'd say the game had some good formats even into early Pendulum era, and the problem is NOT any given summoning mechanic (except Link Monsters kinda).
Thank you for coming to my tedtalk.

Yes I know the ruling, we can't have people Gale Dogra-ing Z-Arc and then Monster Reborning it, I just think it's retarded that Starlight Road and other similar cards don't have a clause saying "Treat this as a Synchro summon" or something to that effect.

Honestly I like Eddison, but yeah, once you factor out Konami's power creep you can find a lot of fun there. Any good fan formats you'd recommend? (I may or may not be trying to make a draft cube work.)
As for Trinity, if its discord mod didn't give you a red (or rather pink) flag, the fact that it tries to balance things by just limiting special summons should have given people pause. You're not fixing the game by doing so, you're just eliminating certain strategies. What if I want to play a swarm type deck? Still, it does have some interesting staple cards.

What they do get right though is the ability to add new cards and keep the format "fresh".
Personally, I think someone should just start with an official format with a good pace and few archetypes (like Eddison), and then periodically add new non-archetypal cards with a community vote after a while to ban or limit ones that disrupt the speed or "feel" too much. You could even eventually add in new summoning types.
Pics related. Would these work in Eddison without disrupting it? Maybe,

I'm not sure why no one (that I've noticed, it's a long thread) has mentioned the Comics Code Authority...but that's the real reason here. Super heroes didn't kill because the writers weren't allowed to show them killing. If they did, their comic would lose the CCA seal of approval, and then stores would either refuse to sell it or risk punishment including vandalism.
This also why American comics became nothing but super heroes despite things like westerns, detective, and horror being very popular in the early days. It's one of the very few genres that could even hope to abide by the code and still sell.

What anime?

I can understand, and at times forgive, when a game takes a while to open up the mechanics to the player or just starts with too many cut-scenes or too much dialogue. There are good games that fall victim to this.
Legitimately what the fuck is going on that would need 130 HOURS to establish? What could possibly require that much set up?

@jetzkrieg
"You need to give up your interests like anime and videogames because uh...because you just have to OK!?"
Remember, "man up" is code for "do this thing that's against your interests",

For all of the faults of post-2016 Yugioh, and there are quite a few, it's astounding how every other card game seems to be self-destructing even faster.

Wait what? It is the Kino author...I might have to pick this up.
Also my complaint for SAO that I've never seen anyone else make is Kirito's special, one of a kind power.
And that power is...dual-wielding. You know, in a fully-immersive full-body VR game.
So was no one else able to pick up two straight swords at once? Why would you not be able to do that?

Vegeta would totally be racist though.

If they're smart they'll start with chubby women that carry the weight well and slowly ratchet it up but I don't expect that level of competence from them in the current year, not to mention in the near future.

>Most "creative" types are unfortunately shitlibs, for a wide variety of reasons
Gatekeeping. The main reason is industry and community-wide gatekeeping, combined with a concerted effort by the new left to get their guys into such industries and a neocon effort (in the US anyway) to discourage right wingers from such pursuits.
Not saying you're doing this here but I hate seeing our guys buy into the "they're naturally more creative because reasons" line when it was only ever a poor attempt to cover up the above. I mean, just look at the state of modern media in America. Is this the result of people who are "automatically the best at art because they just are OK!?"?

Right, I'm sure this makes it easier for them to balance.
-
@heavens_feel @deadheat
In G-era no, I think you can in the newest version but it might be restricted to "Nations" so you'd be playing your idols with the navy and pirates. Vampires would need to play with time gods and an evil circus if I'm correct.
-
@heavens_feel @deadheat
Right, this works out in a similar way in practice where you want to sit at around 3 or 4 damage by turn 3 and onwards and occasionally have to take some risks to get there. Placing cards in the damage zone or clock area is basically the same.
So there you have it. That's Vanguard. There have been special mechanics taken out or added in, but the gameplay is basically the same. The game has several decks each with their own strategy and they always get support unlike other card games.
You can choose between real robots, super robots, vampires, dragon ninjas, dragon knights with machine guns, evil knights, Shinto, cute animals, an idol group, a bishounen navy, zombie pirates, and much more.
