@coolboymew I really liked that series. A bit too melodramatically, and the series still has a huge problem with there being too many girls (despite being told there are so few of them playing these games), but it's still leagues ahead of almost all other anime set in a video game.
@coolboymew Yeah, I didn't pick it up till much later (like years). The first season of SAO was paced poorly, and the second season lost me at the start with "I'm not a girl tee hee" Kirito. It bugged me because I felt like the secondary character from that season, Shinon, really deserved to have her own story. She was interesting enough and did not need a Mary-Sue to carry her, or to hog the spotlight. This other series felt like it fixed that somewhat.
@Nelenese I have noticed there's some level of media watchers who are an absolute plague on any fandom. They can't enjoy some dumb shit for its own sake. I call them explainfags, they're the kind of people who will constantly unironically ask something along the line of "Why can't Megaman teleport directly to the boss room?", they can't understand decisions for the sake of the plot, they can't understand that writer didn't do x because that's currently the fucking genre, they pay terribly little attention and keep asking questions dumber than the show, etc
>Would agree that said I feel like SAO 1 part 1 ending is quite a letdown, it feels like what you'd get in an otherwise good adaptation that had to suddenly cut the story short.
It DID however. The first novel was submitted to a competition that had a word limit, that's why
>Part 2… would have been fun without the rapey NTR. Everyone hated the villain. The game parts were fun but the villain was amazingly shitty
>The one I would heavily dis-recommend / hate is Alicization specially season 2 "War of Underworld", season 1 is filler-ish, season 2 is just horrible like embracing S1's "deus ex machina" of Kirito. (And I forgot most of the prequel movie, IIRC it was okay/fun) That's weird because I heard the contrary usually from people who don't like the series
I have yet to watch it, oddly enough
>GGO on the other end? It's great and I would recommend it, I'm quite hyped for the season 2 of it.

>And I guess they didn't change the ending of the novel? Kind of surprising for something that gets a *full* season adaptation, it makes me wonder if the novel author put his foot down or something to keep things as they are.
That's what the new novels are supposed to be, a fuller Aincrad arc, however they fucked it up and made it a movie series, which skips loads of details, hurr

That's kind of interesting because I would more expect people who liked Kirito, specially in SAO 1 to also like Alicization because they'd likely also tolerate/accept the massive deus-ex part of it, making it a good show for them.
* The heroine is tall and play as a dwarf to enjoy herself. That's half of the plot's identity.
* Heroine gets to befriend a psychopath who tells her "kill me in competition sometimes". The whole story interest is sustained by the premise "if she dies in game, she'll really die" so it's supposed to be a setup for some tragic ending. - The psycho get killed. Doesn't die irl. The little tension was in fact a sham all along.
@MeBigbrain@Kerosene@Nelenese The point is that it doesn't matter. You can quickly realize they did it in the original megaman, which had almost no plot, to look cool having him teleporting in and it requires very little animation to do. Then you think about it a little further and it's obvious, if Megaman did that then there would be no game
@coolboymew@Kerosene@Nelenese Actually your Megaman example is worse because it seems to imply that gameplay is subservient to story/setting instead of the other way around. If a game is fun for reasons that contradict the story then it's still a fun game. If gameplay is hindered due to story reasons it's a shitty game.
@coolboymew@Nelenese Wait what? It is the Kino author...I might have to pick this up.
Also my complaint for SAO that I've never seen anyone else make is Kirito's special, one of a kind power. And that power is...dual-wielding. You know, in a fully-immersive full-body VR game. So was no one else able to pick up two straight swords at once? Why would you not be able to do that?
@Kerosene@coolboymew@Nelenese The eagles thing is peak reddit bullshit Sauron is a giant searchlight Orcs have anti air There are giant flying monsters and poisonous atmosphere If frodo drops the ring while flying it is gone and sauron wins Flying is out of the question
@Kerosene@coolboymew@Nelenese The reason they couldn't fly to Mordor was so obvious to the characters that it didn't even merit mentioning. Feel free to speculate on that reason if you wish though.
@ForbiddenDreamer@Kerosene@coolboymew@Nelenese also i mean, there are in universe reasons why they simple couldn't that if thought through even for a little while, but i mean the obvious real reason is cuz there's no story that way, but it can still be jsutified beucase hte world building is so good, that they couldn't ahve gotten away with doing it from, the eagles aren't anyone but manwe's servants, to they'd be spotted and ring wraithed etc etc.
