Vash should have learned that you can either save the butterfly OR the spider but you can't do both. This conflict is never resolved in the anime.
Tons of people die because Vash refuses to kill anyone, even if they're evil monsters, and he doesn't struggle with that nearly enough

Racist Jimmy Buffett (jimmybuffettfanaccount@poa.st)'s status on Tuesday, 05-Sep-2023 11:16:41 JST Racist Jimmy Buffett Batman can’t kill joker or any of the other villains because then the story would end and the jew writers and company wouldn’t make as much money. Even when I liked comic books and wasn’t JQ aware I always understood that the “in universe” explanations and philosophizing they’d make batman do on the subject of killing were weak post-hoc explanations that were required to justify the real world situation. Heavens Feel (heavens_feel@bae.st)'s status on Wednesday, 06-Sep-2023 01:39:34 JST Heavens Feel @jimmybuffettfanaccount @ChristiJunior @monsterislandcolonizer We saw a universe where Batman did kill Joker, and it didn't go well for anyone. Joker had rigged himself with a very special toxin that would only be released when he died, and the person who killed him would be exposed to it. We ended up with a creature full of Joker's homicidal tendencies and disregard for life who also had all of Batman's training and resources.

It's extremely easy to do, anyone can do it. -
Heavens Feel (heavens_feel@bae.st)'s status on Wednesday, 06-Sep-2023 01:55:00 JST Heavens Feel @ChristiJunior @jimmybuffettfanaccount @monsterislandcolonizer The part about the Punisher killing so other people don't go through what he did is true up to a point, but he became someone who lives through revenge a long time ago. Mephisto once asked Frank if he knew how many innocent people he killed. Frank didn't and the answer was more than 10 but fewer than 100. In Dark Reign, Frank Castle killed his own resurrected family. He probably did so out of fear that they'd be corrupted by whatever rite was being used, but he was also afraid of them seeing him and knowing what he'd become. -
Christi Junior (christijunior@detroitriotcity.com)'s status on Wednesday, 06-Sep-2023 01:55:01 JST Christi Junior @heavens_feel @jimmybuffettfanaccount @monsterislandcolonizer From what I've heard, the Punisher's dead villains don't keep coming back - because that's the choice the writers of those stories make. The writer is the God of his story, he can do anything he/his employer wants - the question is, is it good writing and does it make sense? Bending over backwards to justify letting an incredibly dangerous mass murderer who never remains jailed for long keep on living is bad writing, and doesn't make sense. -
Christi Junior (christijunior@detroitriotcity.com)'s status on Wednesday, 06-Sep-2023 02:39:03 JST Christi Junior @EdBoatConnoisseur @jimmybuffettfanaccount @monsterislandcolonizer Batman being afraid off becoming a crazed vigilante killer makes a lot more sense, but only if he simultaneously does what he can to make sure the authorities execute the Joker *legally* when they have the chance.
Obviously, that kind of pro-capital punishment advocacy would be anathema to most comic book writers. -

EdBoatConnoisseur (edboatconnoisseur@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 06-Sep-2023 02:39:04 JST EdBoatConnoisseur Some later versions of batman did a better job on justifiying batman’s no kill rule, as they changed it from a purely morality thing to a “keep his last marbles” thing, the later batmans are more mentally unstable and broken, as much if not a bit worse than the joker, i think the first batman to show a hint of how bad his mind is was the batman from “under the red hood”, where he tells jason todd he won’t kill joker because then he would be unable to stop himself from killing the rest.
the ‘current’ incarnation is so bad mentally that harley quinn is his personal psychiatrist, and he realy shows that with the wrong push he could easily turn into something similer to the batman who laughs.

I'm not sure why no one (that I've noticed, it's a long thread) has mentioned the Comics Code Authority...but that's the real reason here. Super heroes didn't kill because the writers weren't allowed to show them killing. If they did, their comic would lose the CCA seal of approval, and then stores would either refuse to sell it or risk punishment including vandalism.
This also why American comics became nothing but super heroes despite things like westerns, detective, and horror being very popular in the early days. It's one of the very few genres that could even hope to abide by the code and still sell.Heavens Feel likes this. -
