Partly it was as you said, to preserve water, partly it was to hold off scurvy, because you could mix limes in and have some vitamin C, and partly it was to keep people happy in what was otherwise a pretty terrible job.

@LionelValentineAborted @Twoinchdestroya @WashedOutGundamPilot Brain drain explains Mexico, but not sub-Saharan Africa. There's about a 15 point IQ gap between the 2. Brain drain is the best possible genetic thing that could happen to those leaving the country (other than being the 1-in-100million that manages to become supreme leader), so those in that situation will always want to flee.
Leaving them alone seems to work for a few places like Rwanda & Uganda, but not most. Really the best thing that could happen for them is some kind of extreme IQ-based eugenics, with an overall lowering of population to allow their wildlife/natural riches to recover. As it is, they're at a high enough population that they risk a famine, which could wipe out all remaining wildlife.

@Twoinchdestroya @WashedOutGundamPilot That drone delivery thing was made by white engineers. Rwanda was a good test bed because it's cheap and has low regulations. But I have known a couple intelligent Africans, they're rare but with enough people they're bound to show up eventually.

The smart ones can rarely hit their full potential because they have all that holding them back, but the rest are the ones that will never change.
I met one who was really good at calculus in high school. He informed me about necklacing, which was popular in his home country. I knew another who was pretty intelligent and earned a decent wage here, but complained about how every one of his relatives just begged for money from him. By the things I've read elsewhere, this seems fairly common.

@WashedOutGundamPilot @okuu It's an easy tool for a manipulative cunt, usually the wife but not always, to shop around for someone to agree with them so they can turn it into a struggle session rather than diplomacy. If it all goes sour they can always complain to the family court judge that they tried counseling but the other one (usually the husband) was not cooperative.

Political considerations will always outweigh military ones, because they haven't had to fight a war where national survival (and thus their lives) were at stake since 1814. As long as a military bureaucrat isn't personally held responsible for failure, and they never are, they don't care how bad it goes for the nation.
I could call out dozens of examples, but here's a recent one: The one marine officer who called out Biden's Afghan pullout disaster got thrown in jail, while the morons who got people killed are still employed or even promoted.
