You're 100% correct on defamation. It's an economic tort, not an emotional tort. Even the classic case of calling a woman unchaste is about her subsequent inability to get married, e.g. an economic injury, and not her emotions.
I find it even stranger that you can stick defamation on a guy that most people think is ridiculous. He doesn't have the authority of Tom Brokaw, and if he did, he could defame and hide behind being a "legitimate journalist." I was defamed by Hobo Harry!
He was also playing Metroid: Rogue Dawn earlier. He found it in my archives after I showed him the soundtrack as an example of how to use an arpegiator.
I think there's a few large players that see linux as a threat to their market share in the consumer markets. While only about 4% of consumers use linux, that's up 1% in about a year and my bet is that most of those users are under 30. If they lose the demographic, they lose the future of their OS businesses, and the information / data pipeline it produces. So I wouldn't be surprised if corporate glowniggers are sticking their hands in linux development and the propaganda behind it, and particularly in the consumer end of it (let's not start a redhat system d thread). I mean... why wouldn't they? And licensing is just one aspect.
Plus I've heard no compelling argument for wayland tbh, and x11 works and is well documented.
My theory is that wayland is just one of many long term moves to take control away from the user in the name of security, including by eliminating network transparency through the destruction of the client-server model that had be central to linux for decades.
Your comment that I'm punk isn't far off. I grew up on metal and was very anti-authority as a teenager, and not without reason. I still generally dislike authority, including courts and state agencies. That's why I do a lot of defense work.
An aside.... One time a deputy from a state agency showed up at my clients business. Client calls me and makes her, a thick accented Puerto Rican woman, get on the phone with me. The conversation got heated over a legal issue (which they capitulated over two weeks later after taking it to their counsel).
> Her: Stop yelling at me.
> Me: I'm not yelling. I have a naturally loud voice and I'm being stern.
> Her: *actually yelling* I don't get paid to get yelled at.
> Me: Well I do.
> Client: Yeah we pay him to get yelled at.
It broke her. She didn't know what to say. I hate state agents do much. She made everything more difficult for everyone, even herself.
I'm one of those lincoln lawyer guys. You probably will never find me in my office (I'lI meet if necessary). I work from where ever and generally on my own schedule, except court appearances. I have a laptop and a cell phone, and terminals in every room of my house.
This seriously confuses most of my boomer clients... "I went by your office at 8am and you weren't there," "I don't have a scanner or email, what do you mean just drop the documents through the mail slot? I want to meet you there in person." "Do you even work?"
Yes, I work alot, you walking corpse. Usually when you're asleep, i.e. after 2pm. ð
The irony is that I'm actually one of the most responsive lawyers. I try my best to promptly return calls and emails with the day, and I directly meet with clients.
Most modern firms stick a paralegal or secretary between the lawyer and the client. The client rarely sees or talks to counsel, and call back can take a few days if you're not the $$$$ client.
I've had a few boomer clients leave and come back once they understood the level of service provided despite my schedule and procedures.
Gen-X also got passed over on other areas for the same reason. For example, in their careers where they missed promotion opportunities because boomers refused to retire.
They have to get every last nickle and dime, because they earned it, i.e. inherited a libertine economy created by the greatest generation and drove it into the ground.
Women will tell their friend ... "you should fuck him... he's hot. I'd totally fuck him," and Then they'll turn tell everyone what an easy whore their friend is.
What's the average monthly data use on an invidious instance? Serving up videos has to be more demanding than text and memes. I know it depends on users, but if you get listed on the github page, you're gonna get hits.
The timeline is a bit confusing, but the allegation is that she was using "sex" to get an inmate to cooperate in order to secure the permanent release of another inmate.
It makes me wonder whether manipulating inmate testimony via seduction has been common in her career. The bar should investigate.
