Sorry to hear this is happening!
This sounds like quite a rare or new problem, haven't heard of it before.
Are you using an app or using your server's website?

The group will reach 100% of people who subscribe to the group.
The hashtag will only reach people who are following/searching for the hashtag AND whose server has noticed your account.
So, groups tend to reach more servers, but hashtags tend to reach people who aren't in groups.
No?
You just click follow?
Yes, if you're browsing their profile on another server's website, you have to copy and paste.
But you don't have to do that when you're just browsing profiles within your own server?

I've never heard blind users telling me that alt text was inaccessible? Screen reader software normally looks at alt text.
Also, Mastodon's text limit can be increased by admins either directly through file editing or through use of forks like Glitch.
Hey there, welcome ๐
I've got a website at https://fedi.tips which answers lots of questions, and if you want more help feel free tto ask!
You can mute or block accounts that you don't want to see posts from. Click on the โฏ below a post and select mute or block.
If you see something rule-breaking, you can report post the same way by clicking โฏ and then report.
You can also filter words and phrases as @diazona suggested: https://fedi.tips/filtering-your-timeline-to-hide-posts-on-mastodon/
By the way, another feature you might want to explore is Lists, which let you make themed mini-timelines: https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-the-lists-feature-on-mastodon/
You can use managed hosting where the hosting company does all the techy stuff including updates, fixes, maintenance etc. I've got a website about this at https://growyourown.services
But I'm just suggesting people move to another server, they don't have to set up their own :) (Though obviously, nice to see more servers!)
Thank you Stux! ๐
Hey there, have a look at my website https://fedi.tips for lots of guides for beginners :)
There's a quick start at the top and complete list of guides below that.
If you can't find what you want, ask me!
"like hashtags on someoneโs profile "
I know this isn't the easiest, but you can do this by going to the person's web page profile and adding /tagged/ plus the hashtag you want. For example if you want to find my posts about peertube you go to:
https://mstdn.social/@feditips/tagged/peertube
"if thereโs a way to add like larger text or change the font "
You can change font size on many apps. You don't have to use the official app, the third party apps are usually much better: https://fedi.tips/which-apps-can-i-use-should-i-use-the-official-app-or-a-third-party-app/
Brilliant!
By the way, this is on the official Mastodon roadmap (at https://joinmastodon.org/roadmap) as "Explicit controls to fetch more data from origin server".
You can't hide your follower count on vanilla Mastodon.
The reason that option appears on your server is because it's running Glitch Mastodon, which is a fork of vanilla Mastodon.
Because vanilla Mastodon doesn't even have this option, it shows a hidden follower number as 0 rather than hiding it.
-I've done a list of all the methods for discovering interesting accounts to follow: https://fedi.tips/how-do-i-find-accounts-to-follow-on-mastodon-and-the-fediverse-how-do-i-find-my-friends/
Nice to see you on here, give it a bit of time to get used to things and I'm sure you can find some like-minded people.
Do let me know if there's anything else you want me to help with!

Hey there! I'll go through in order:
-You can search your own posts by including the phrase from:me (with no spaces) in the search. You can search posts you've interacted with using phrase in:library
-You can search for posts with hashtags by just entering hashtag in the search box, but there's no way to order it in terms of popularity, as idea on here is to discourage clout-chasing.
-Are you saying after they block you it doesn't remove their post, even when you refresh the thread?

It's exactly the same way you follow people on your home instance.
I can see you've followed me for example, and we are on different instances (you're on ioc.exchange and I'm on mstdn.social).
I'm not a dev or sysadmin, I can't give help with manual installation.
All I can suggest is asking about this in the github either as an issue or in the discussion section.
It's a central fact about how the Fediverse works.
If we congregate on a single server, it becomes much easier for the Fediverse to be bought out as Twitter was.
The more spread out we are, the safer we are from Musk-type scenarios.
Hey there, welcome and thanks for the feedback!
All searches, for words or people or hashtags, happen in the search box at the top left of the page on the desktop website. I guess it might be easy to miss as it's a similar colour to the background?
To follow a hashtag, you search for the hashtag and then click the "follow hashtag" button in the search results.
About getting started quicktips, do you mean on my website at https://fedi.tips?
I don't think that is a factor?
Full text search is an opt-in feature on all servers, it's off by default on all servers.
@FrankSonntag @ClaireFromClare
Yeah, that does sound like it ought to have a warning on the setting to make it clear ๐ฌ
