@WashedOutGundamPilot @BobsonDugnuttHB To be fair, think of how much of a shitshow things were day or weeks after Russia invaded. Everyone competent was either at the front, getting shipped out to the front, or working their ass off coordinating logistics. Then Zelensky goes on TV and announces that you're also organizing a foreign legion... Then a bunch of random Westerners start showing up. 9/10 don't speak Ukrainian or Russian, most of them don't have previous military experience, and a fraction are either high or drunk. Then the Americans start asking why they can't just pull up satellite imagery of the Russian positions and call in an air strike like they did in Iraq. At that point I'd probably give them a make-work job and tell them to fuck off as well.

He didn't get it by hard work or virtue, just dumb luck. And then he proceeds to fight various villains of the week doing evil shit for no reason.

@WashedOutGundamPilot @Leaflord @MeBigbrain It's often just lazy writing. These authors spray out thousands of words a day for years on end, they don't bother with stuff like characters with depth. And a lot of the main tropes have pretty close equivalents in Western fantasy. They are just less ashamed of just throwing random shit together and calling it a novel, or padding word count with 5000 words describing their new shiny objects.
For example:
- Spoiled young master / spoiled aristocrat: an easy way to contrast our virtuous, hard-working main character with an undeserving nepo-baby.
- Fortuitous encounter: pretty common in Western fantasy for the protagonist to stumble across a magic sword in a stone or some similar stroke of fate.
- Success is only found via fortuitous, fated encounters - this gets subverted all the time. Half the stuff I have read involves a main character using tenacity and grit to overcome "luckier" opponents.

Honestly it's hard to blame the cops in this case, particularly if they don't have any lifeguard training. Dragging a panicking, clothed, full-grown man out of the water is hard enough when you don't have to worry about them fighting you.

@WashedOutGundamPilot @rightwingsjw @Twoinchdestroya Yeah it seems pretty low unless the US really mishandles the situation. The most likely scenario I can see is:
- The Ukrainian counteroffensive sputters out with minor gains
- The conflict freezes into a 2014-like stalemate where both sides drone and artillery strike each other from behind their defensive lines
- Ukrainian nationalists keep getting directed away from the government and towards the Russian meatgrinder
- The US and EU aid declines as popular support drops but is sufficient to keep the Ukrainian government on life support
If they fuck up the last point and the Ukrainian gov stops being able to deliver basic services, then Zelensky potentially ends up getting the Gaddafi treatment.
That or in a few years the Ukrainians realize they are getting conned and do something about it. But I doubt it will happen anytime soon. They will keep getting strung along with "we *want* to rebuild Ukraine, but we can't invest trillions of dollars until we finally defeat Russia!"

@WashedOutGundamPilot @VidMasterEon It's going to be chaos when all those Ukrainian veterans realize that they aren't getting a Marshall Plan. Estimated cost for rebuilding is something like $2 trillion USD, they will be lucky to get $200 billion and half of that will disappear into oligarchs' offshore bank accounts.

@grey @WashedOutGundamPilot Sure, it was doable but that requires competent tech people (and actually paying them $100+ an hour) or paying for an expensive off the shelf solution like Cloudflare Stream. It isn't reasonable to expect the random zoomers working for Sam Hyde "for exposure" to be competent.

You'd think Sam has the name recognition to get a deal with Rumble or some other alt-tech streaming platform, where they give him free hosting or even pay him to make it platform exclusive. But I guess he got sold a bill of goods by his tech guy, and now it's too late to set up an arrangement like that.
