They store the keys in the hangar usually and don't mind if you borrow them as long as you bring them back with a full tank of avgas.Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this. -

THe first person was told “I’m just taking it up around the circuit, y’know, get the oil movin’”
I think it took someone actually being furious enough to call the cops to scare him off, but by then he was on to bigger and better jobs. Most small town club craft or renters have the keys in the oil box, usually a tool kit or those compartmental padlocks. If it’s a club thing people usually won’t close it anyways.
But why steal time when you could network? If you’re likable you could probably just ask anyone and they’ll take you up for a ride. Hit up the EAA chapter for the guys wanting a tax deduction for it, I think they do freebies a lot

You had the 9/11 slump where tons of low-timers got furloughed, never went back into the industry too. In 2014 they added the ATP min, which only solidified their advice about how you’d have to be retarded to start civilian and fly for pay.
Having good, reliable pathways to fly commercially outside the college system is kind of new to the industry. When I started I couldn’t find anyone willing to gimme a loan, now they’re offering them left and right. Have a bro who paid $55,000 for time building in a seneca just to hit his RATP mins

I am very angry they did not hit me and force me into becoming a pilot when I was younger they bought the boomer "let your kids follow their dreams" bullshit that gets White kids broken out of succession jobs that pay excellent. -
