   I hope everyone’s watching and learning from these things. We’ve been privy to a handful of terrible, boneheaded business screwups this year, and you can hone yoru skills by paying attention to what they’re doing. This whole fishtank thing is EXACTLY why there’s a time to pay real, hard, painful money to a seasoned professional.

   At work, we had a similar issue w/ brass refusing to pay someone intelligent. THe end result is that they failed to make systems correctly, causing a cascade of expensive screwups we’re only just getting over months after the initial crash.

   It’s all well and good when sam thought he could trust the smart 23 yo dude with making a robust website for 60,000 active viewers for all of $1,200 a month….in practice? Well, should’ve sprung for someone with a decade of experience and a 2-page resume

     I heard the biggest problem with post-MDE Sam Hyde is that over the last few years after both the initial fallout from WP being canceled and the Gumroad saga is that Sam surrounded himself with yes-men and zoomers who instead of trying to be just as creative, sucked his dick because he was the funny meme guy.
     
     Which would explain a lot about what happened, if you are a literal drooling retard with computers a typical 20something zoomer who can spout buzzwords sounds smarter than he is. Ironically he became who he mocked in Your Dad 2, that out of touch boomer parent who is wowed when the router is reset. Oh cool you can spout buzzwords about the cloud and AWS, does that mean you can build a streaming site?

     @grey I don’t think Hyde is really doing as well income-wise as people seem to think around here. He’s said as much before. I’m not sure how accurate the revenue sites are, but the one I looked at said he got $240,000 in youtube superchats. Subtract a third right off the bat, that’s how much youtube keeps (not sure if that counts for desktop users, too, or if it’s even worse for apple buyers). Now subtract payroll tax and whatever else, though I assume he’s paying them as ‘contractors’ to avoid all those costs and put them all into their pockets. I bet you Jet is paid less than $2k a month. if that. Probably getting paid in “exposure” and “free food” or something gay. It’s telling that hyde doesn’t have any capo’s building a life off their work in his posse. It’s always zoomers aging out of it when they want more than $100 of spending money every month.

     Someone here said sam got like, $3,000 for his fight because he opted to forego a flat rate payment, thinking that his fans would pay for the fight and he’d get a cut. OOPS! Turns out the “based single guy” crowd is extraordinarily underemployed and cheap.

     If they spin out the real estate streams into its own thing, revenue will tank. Sam’s streams suck ass, it’s just him playing around and spitting, hacking, and eating into the mic while the same 5 suck-ups pay him money to play foster dad. From what I can gather (and I’m not much of a fan, so I”m not super privy to his money) most of the Hyde funds are the result of crypto shit and NFT’s.

     I wouldn’t be looking forward to a well-oiled $6-figure site anytime soon. He made “plenty” of money on the season passes, but I don’t think he’s in the green just yet, or if he is he’s deathly afraid of leaving it.

     Here's the thing with Sam though, with social media shit that did in fact work out.
     
     For a while when Sam was swearing he would not go back to YouTube, he was releasing hourlong videos on gumroad that got mediocre reviews from the fanbase (Hydewars, HWD/Crush500, etc.) but then something happened; he had diehard fans who would clip the "best parts" or "good parts" of these videos and upload them separately in the same way that podcasters like Cum Town and radio shows back in the early days of YT had megafans who would upload "the best clips". More people began to give a shit about these videos than Sam's Gumroad content (and they likely drew in subs). Once he even uploaded a HWD episode to YT for a day or so before deleting it to try to bait subs and it didn't do as much as the clip channels.
     
     So Sam got a good idea, to hire one of those clip channels and make it the true and honest Sam Hyde channel. One of them rejected it and got mocked for it, the other less popular clip channel took him up on the offer and got paid by Sam to edit his videos (this would become what is now Sam and Nick's Perfect Clips).
     
     Needless to say Sam Hyde's made a huge comeback because of having people in his sphere who knew the game as opposed to dumping shit nobody watched on Gumroad and he incorrectly assumed he could translate the same to running his own website since Sam's head is stuck in 2013 with that and his zoomer pals underestimated what they'd need hard.

     @AmericanChampion @WashedOutGundamPilot @graf proposed an affordable solution to him on friday, and sam and his team (such as it is) had all weekend and didn't take him up on it, opting for paying out the ass to cloudflare instead. maybe he has his reasons, but he had access to talented people trying to help him.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @grey I know for a fact that there are people who could've made that work for him and done so affordably - techfags are the one thing our side of the internet has plenty of. Issue is there's no real mechanism for mapping these guys to customers.
     
     A simple anon website where people get crypto for completing code projects would really be something, especially if it caught on. Ton of talented, underemployed self-taught codefags whose highest calling right now is being the smartest shitposter in their /g/ thread.

     @grey @AmericanChampion @graf Probably nigh-impossible to decipher who’s worthwhile with the deluge of stuff he gets. I’d bet they were paralized and didn’t wanna take the chance on anything but the most corporate, safe pick. That’s why they went with cloudflare.

He’s been on the cutting edge of big talking losers trying to get him to bootstrap stupid shit like “Twitter, but based“ for more than a decade. I’d be burned out on it all too.

     How many times do we all have to go through the birth and death of new sites imitating the old ones? We’ve had half a dozen replacement video/streaming sites all go through the cycle, only to eject everyone anew. I’d be ignoring all the emails, too.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @grey Trying to DIY this was a weird choice. You'd think Sam has the name recognition to get a deal with Rumble or some other alt-tech streaming platform, where they give him free hosting or even pay him to make it platform exclusive. But I guess he got sold a bill of goods by his tech guy, and now it's too late to set up an arrangement like that.

     @InceptionState @WashedOutGundamPilot @grey Been saying for a while that any serious 'free speech alternative' site with big money behind it could corner the market by reaching out to guys like Hyde, and others from ~2016 who are talented but edgy, and giving them sponsorship deals to create exclusive content that the platforms would then promote.
     
     Issue is that most such platforms aren't aiming for that demo, they want to milk the last few baby boomers. Not sustainable, and doesn't build a community.

     @grey @WashedOutGundamPilot Sure, it was doable but that requires competent tech people (and actually paying them $100+ an hour) or paying for an expensive off the shelf solution like Cloudflare Stream. It isn't reasonable to expect the random zoomers working for Sam Hyde "for exposure" to be competent.

     probably all in all you're looking at 5k for the infra and that's being EXTREMELY generous to the datacenter provider

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @grey 90k was based on the 30k he payed GCP for like 3 days (lmfao). You could probably get that same job done for under 12k (at maybe an additional 10k if he's really going to make it 6 weeks), including your own hardware, if you had an agreement with the municipality and their broadband you're filming close to, plus a handful of like 7 year old servers to serve 10k people. Idk, @sapphire does it sound like I'm speaking out of my ass? You can get 10Gbps in a bunch of municipal data centers, rack space isn't that expensive, hardest thing might be hooking the servers together to serve video in a reliable manner, but k8s if you're a faggot (me), and some kind of dumb load-balancer if you're not would probably do that job just dandy. I'd take 78k profit GLADLY for 2 months worth of work.
