     - No one is equipped to build their own success, only capitalize on luck
     - Cruelty to enemies, lip service of kindness to allies (often apathetic cruelty though)
     - they aren't a material race, they aren't accustomed to collecting and using objects, so every little thing they own is a life-changing treasure, (equipment isn't background noise)

These authors spray out thousands of words a day for years on end, they don't bother with stuff like characters with depth. And a lot of the main tropes have pretty close equivalents in Western fantasy. They are just less ashamed of just throwing random shit together and calling it a novel, or padding word count with 5000 words describing their new shiny objects.
     
     For example:
     - Spoiled young master / spoiled aristocrat: an easy way to contrast our virtuous, hard-working main character with an undeserving nepo-baby.
     - Fortuitous encounter: pretty common in Western fantasy for the protagonist to stumble across a magic sword in a stone or some similar stroke of fate.
     - Success is only found via fortuitous, fated encounters - this gets subverted all the time. Half the stuff I have read involves a main character using tenacity and grit to overcome "luckier" opponents.

In my mind, that's what makes the genre.

It's not that wuxia or Eastern literature is inherently bad, it's that it's being written by rat utopia goblin men with poor classical literature understanding who grew up arguing about the 17 ranks of the sound kekaku fox lords of the baofeng mission to kill the god of thunder for Saske and Naruto to be friends again or w/e anime they watched too much of to escape their crushing lives dominated by classes to learn skills they had no passion for, but were auspicious for their parents to proclaim to their "friends" in horrible little pissing contests. Not dissimilar to how the Western middle classes used to brag, not about having maids, but about not having Maids of All Work for the more specific the maid's duties, the more affluent the masters must have been.
     
     Like the west, the Easterners often have this weird, 3rd hand backing in a lot of their own cultural traditions because of the structure of modernity being antithetical to the transmission of culture, religion and identity so they, like us, rarely produce authentic and good transmissions of it themselves.
     
     The total degradation of culture, faith and human kind is not unique to the west. It's just disproportionately intense based on how recently your civilization has reached internationalism.

Self improvement is the most fundamental element of the human condition, we have more mastery over ourselves than any other living thing. It is the gift of the divine. Any person can deem to learn to do a thing they could not before.
     
     I think you've had your image of self improvement poisoned by television, or wider culture, and you just think of dime a dozen self help books when you hear the word.
     
     Self improvement is the default state of a person. If you are not getting better, it is because you are electing to rot before you die.

By expecting constant stasis from the underclasses, you deny yourself the opportunity to make great men, who will be born, your ally. You make them your foe and doom yourself to events like the French, English or Russian Revolution.

His value is recognized, his resources increase, and he is able to ascend higher on the ladder, a worthy challenge; the black knight, the trickster god, or kingdom's many troubles presents its' self, and through his earnt strength, wisdom and resilience he conquers it. Made powerful beyond reckoning, he departs the world once he has brought it to a state of peace, because he has grown dignified beyond the need of total power over anything but himself.
