   Don’t waste your time, anyone who says “just use cash” or “just use crypto” when talking about running a healthy, thriving IRL business with a straight face is a well-meaning, but unserious (or retarded) person.

   For anyone but those already pushed outside the normal economy, it’s not a real solution, the take rate is just way, way too low to be taken seriously. Unless you’re selling something they can ONLY get with crypto or something that captivates a primal impulse (drugs, porn, etc) then you simply won’t have enough people go through the rigamarole necessary to pay with whatever buttfuck flavor-of-the-week alt-currency people are pushing.

   If you’re a professional, you’re realistic enough to recognize that you can’t fill your gas tank with well-intentioned but unpracticable solutions. Despite that fact, jobless retards on the bottom rung of the employment ladder will tell you to run your business on these unworkable fringe panaceas that at BEST will only be used by 0.4% of your customer base, and they’ll be furious when you tell them it’s not going to work in the real world.

   It never gets better. Only experience could ever teach them.

     I know, I know. All these non-zogdollar things ARE cool, but john k. customer is too dumb, apathetic, and tired to go through a 9-step process to buy a band’s t-shirt off an etsy store, and at the end of the day, that’s what matters. People need to survive, and all the wonderful, advanced, perfect tools and monetary solutions in the world don’t mean shit if they don’t get mass use, and they won’t see widespread adoption just because people wanna buy stupid little trinkets online.

     We’ve had bitcoin for 10+ years and it STILL isn’t catching on yet. I don’t think any of that crypto stuff will see widespread adoption until people are getting debanked for normie politics like the canuckie truckers did. Once they’re FORCED off the plantation, then we’ll see more widespread adoption of non-zogdollar scrip.

     I’ve tried this shit before, and you know what I learned? The kind of people who are willing to buy something from you, IRL, with silver, are super cheap. In theory it sounds cool trading a gun for a few pounds of silver dollars, in practice you get offered 40% of actual USD value because the guys autistic enough to get into that game tend to be weirdos.

     What’s that? Spot price is $28 an ounce? Well this guy is going to offer you 10 ounces for a $800 rifle while acting like he’s doing you a favor because “buying these would cost you at least $35 an ounce after the fees and shipping!” (Even if that were true he’s still lowballing you)

     @PapaPole @kuon It’s just so unrealistic, if you take a look at the questions normies have they’re so utterly lost when it comes to crypto, the most amateur biz owner would realize it’s not gonna work to take up the heavy lifting at his register.

     Normies will “buy” ethereum on robin hood and ask how to spend it. That’s on the better end of someone who’s willing to go that far in the hopes of using crypto as an actual currency. Well-meaning, but inept.

     I know one old sysadmin guy who insists on only buying from companies who are “Trustpilot verified”. You think he’s making the account on kucoin in order to buy ethereum to trade for cardano to trade for Pepedoge so he can get your anime girl t shirt? probably not. (not to mention he WILL blame you for being a “scammer” when he sees the Tx fees each step of the way)

     I guess if you haven’t been in that line of work it seems impossible that people are so lazy, particularly if you’re a single weirdo with lots of weirdo friends who got on board with crypto years ago. You can’t imagine how retarded the average customer is. It’s insane.

     The conversion rate for someone putting a bunch of stuff in their shopping cart for an hour, then going to your ‘checkout’ page is already like, 40% to start. If they first see a “Make an account with us” dialogue? Whops, you just lost most of them, your rate drops to less than 20%

     But crypto fans will tell you that those same customers will go through the account-making process five times in a row just to buy your product, because they imagine normies have the same level of drive and agency they do. In reality, they give it the niggercattle stare and say “ah, it’s not worth the hassle” and end up forgetting all about the transaction.

The IRS and such does not take payment in gold, silver, dinguscoin, or a nft of a bunny with a pancake on its head.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @kuon None of these alt-fiats will ever dethrone USD. You have to pay taxes in dollars and the feds will ensure its primacy. Just look at the US financial sanctions against its adversaries, Russia, Iran, etc. Any bank that deals with them is cut off from USD and SWIFT. Oh you say bitcoin fixes this? And you have 4000 bitcoins valued at $160 million (isn't it interesting how every shitcoin's value is measured in dollars?) How will you pay your property tax though? What, the county doesn't take bitcoins? The exchanges won't touch bitcoins? I guess you have zero dollars and the county now owns your house. I wish libertarians understood that societal problems are not solved with complex technological solutions. The government unbanking people won't be solved by bitcoin. The problem isn't the unbanking, but government's contempt for and uncivility towards dissent.

     @marlin @kuon Not to mention the problem of getting on the radar to begin with. At least I was able to liquidate mine before all this insanity. I feel bad for the guys who dropped $200 in weed money and held on to the bitcoin all this time. I’m SURE there’s some “white boy hunting” algorithm in the IRS’ bowels that stays looking out for underemployed young guys depositing $500,000 out of nowhere. They’ll undoubtedly keep that in their pocket and start rooting around to see if they own any MORE unknown coins after that.

     I always thought this was part of why NFTs kind of took off. There’s actually a dearth of ways to spend crypto, when you think about it. Eveyrthing has KYC attached, so the number of long time holders are sitting on a pile of unusable coins because they can’t bear to get on the radar

I didn’t like all the overhead involved in setting up my own wallet and ended up getting rid of it all. The high GPU prices due to shitcoin “mining” don’t please me much either. I’m sticking to precious metals.

     @Twoinchdestroya @PapaPole @kuon That really, genuinely wracks me with guilt at the thought of pushing an unknowing, trusting customer into that situation, too. Just in the hypothetical, I feel bad for foisting that kind of thing on someone who just wants to gimme money for a service. I can’t even imagine brushing it off when someone angrily emails me about getting “scammed”, either. I’d be constantly losing my shirt trying to give them upgrades and discounts just to make up for putting them through that.

I’m thinking more along the lines of if hyperinflation destroys the value of my fiat savings account I can trade some coins for a few million Wiemerica bux so I can buy bread and not starve. I also like the “ooh, shiny” factor.

     @john_rando @Twoinchdestroya @PapaPole @kuon I have a stack at my desk that I play with. I just think the whole silver’community’ needs to be more realistic. They’re very silly in a lot of ways. To date, my silver hasn’t really appreciated THAT much from when I bought most of it, and I’ve never come out ahead when treating it as a currency, either. It’s fun to play with, but all the lofty promises on the front of the “Stack Silver!” playset ring hollow for me.

     I think these were going for about…$32 10 years back? I vaguely recall spot being around $27 or so when I bought a bunch. So it’s gone up a bit, finally. Last time I looked it was mid $30’s. So maybe they’re finally in the green.

     No joke, I think some of these are even CHEAPER than they were 10 years back. And this is supposed to be an inflation hedge.

     But I don't think anyone is actually just sitting on 27 bucks, they would have just used it somewhere else before it lost it's value.

     @kuon @PapaPole @Twoinchdestroya @john_rando Don’t start on that, man. Back when I bought there used to be a combination where each silver ounce you bought, you could get with a bitcoin attached. It cost an extra dollar, and each round had a one-use sticker w/ wallet and address.
