I'll be honest here laurie, you don't look like you've got a mean left hook hiding just out of view. If you actually tried to punch a fascist they might not notice. -

I doubt the plantation owners looked forward fondly to all their labourers suddenly walking off scot free *and* being owed a shitton of land and tools. -

Not at all, it was a very tempting prospect for many people. It just happens those people make terrible slaves. In some cases they were duped into becoming "indentured servants," though, and once their indenture ended they were denied the land and tools they were promised and had no choice but to remain slaves. -

But because it's kinda hard to define exactly what a type of gun is there's a lot of weird rules that don't make any sense and don't make anyone safer.
In this case I think he just turned that from a "pistol" into a "short barrel rifle" which means he needs to apply for an extra licence and pay an extra tax. -

They are very cool though.
I'm amazed no one's built drone mules for delivering drugs. Like a long range torpedo but a bit smarter, able to shut down and be quiet if there's another boat nearby. It seems obvious. -

There's an amateur team in Denmark that made three of them. They're working on a spacecraft currently (copenhagen suborbitals).
Unfortunately the guy behind the submarine turned out to be a... gore fan. He murdered a journalist and ended up in prison.
There's also a swiss guy that built a ferro-concrete submarine yacht. It was only designed to go down around 5 meters I think, but that's enough to be completely protected from most storms. -

Super ‘tarded idea. Sure, they might wanna keep a secret, but….
Holy shit he actually said that? Suddenly the deliberate sabotage idea sounds credible.
> Even merchant subs were strangled off pretty quick IIRC
Surprising amount of history there. I think fully submersible cargo ships are pretty useless outside of very niche circumstances, but semi submersibles have strong arguments. There were a class of barges called "whalebacks" on the great lakes for a few decades that showed promise. I think they were ahead of their time. -

I don't think it's beyond the bounds of possibility: We're only now learning the theories about the Lucitania were all correct. -

1. After an accident there's always hundreds of people cocksure about why it happened, how everyone should have known and how they would have prevented it had they been in charge. Armchair generals in other words. Sometimes they're right, sometimes not.
2. As you pointed out above, this whole story is like a perfect storm of popular hatred. It was practically designed to make everyone agree on hating one small group of people even if only for a few days 🤣. Again, maybe justified but I'm inclined to wait a bit to see if he's actually cuntzilla.
Oh and cluster balooning is fucking amazing. I've wanted to try it since I heard about it as a teenager.
Same with crossing the atlantic in an impossibly small yacht. I'm a huge sven yrvind fan. -

On the other hand the memes write themselves... how can I not joke about this. -

They were pinned down in a desert fortress, but some pilot kept flying out to them, landing right outside, dropping off some supplies, stuffing a wounded guy into the observer's seat and taking off again.
I think there's huge room for something like that on battlefields again but whenever militaries design aircraft the design requirements always seem to spiral off until it's a wedding cake of a thing.
This is also a reason I think militias could possibly compete with professional armies if they were allowed to buy their own equipment to fulfill loose objectives. -
