     I'm kinda torn. On one side I genuinely admire people who do crazy shit in an era where everything's sanitised and safe and insured. Like the guy who tried to go into space in the steam rocket, or climbing mt. everest naked.

     It's definitely possible he was. I'm inclined to take the reporting on this with a pinch of salt because:
     
     1. After an accident there's always hundreds of people cocksure about why it happened, how everyone should have known and how they would have prevented it had they been in charge. Armchair generals in other words. Sometimes they're right, sometimes not.
     
     2. As you pointed out above, this whole story is like a perfect storm of popular hatred. It was practically designed to make everyone agree on hating one small group of people even if only for a few days 🤣. Again, maybe justified but I'm inclined to wait a bit to see if he's actually cuntzilla.
     
     Oh and cluster balooning is fucking amazing. I've wanted to try it since I heard about it as a teenager.
     
     Same with crossing the atlantic in an impossibly small yacht. I'm a huge sven yrvind fan.

     I hate schizo takes more every day. What exactly is wrong with the real story? An arrogant billionaire tech bro build a shitty boat with meme tech like carbon fiber, cuts corners to save money and refused to hire 50 year old White guys because they are "not inspirational" (and because they constantly point out the bad construction of the boat), then pays the price for it all with his life.
     
     Just dine out on the confirmation bias, guys. No need to invent a side story of a hyper competent government and its master plan to keep people away from a pile of rust on the ocean floor.

     @Ariovistus @Eiregoat @Bertpro2000 @Wormwood His point was that the titanic site is already a UNESCo point that requires approval for operators to head down there to begin with - the fact they allowed this obvious death trap is how they get to prevent any future tours of the wreck

     (his point was retarded though, tying into seeing that the boat was sunk by explosives, because THAT would prove it was federal reserve blah blah)

     Although come to think of it, if they could inspect the rent in the sides and the plates were blown out rather than in, it would raise a lot of questions.

     I’m not all that opposed to the whole op being permitted just to end any of this stuff in the future, deep sea exploration and subs aren’t something they like existing for the goys. Even merchant subs were strangled off pretty quick IIRC

     Surprising amount of history there. I think fully submersible cargo ships are pretty useless outside of very niche circumstances, but semi submersibles have strong arguments. There were a class of barges called "whalebacks" on the great lakes for a few decades that showed promise. I think they were ahead of their time.

They’re the only ones with an actual budget, limited primarily by their workshop locations. They’ve made a lot of progress for being a bunch of jungle monkeys working on the banks of a brazilian river. They got those things to make an ocean voyage

     It's entirely possible. There's an amateur team in Denmark that made three of them. They're working on a spacecraft currently (copenhagen suborbitals).
     
     Unfortunately the guy behind the submarine turned out to be a... gore fan. He murdered a journalist and ended up in prison.
     
     There's also a swiss guy that built a ferro-concrete submarine yacht. It was only designed to go down around 5 meters I think, but that's enough to be completely protected from most storms.

     I've heard a lot of stories about columbian cocaine lords with full on military subs, but the only ones I've actually seen are basically speed boats with a cover over the top. They are very cool though.
     
     I'm amazed no one's built drone mules for delivering drugs. Like a long range torpedo but a bit smarter, able to shut down and be quiet if there's another boat nearby. It seems obvious.
