where did the machines come from? they weren't made locally. they came from the west, and we gave them away for scrap value -

this is why there are no solved problems in the west
solved problems are not profitable. that's why whenever an effective medicine goes off patent, suddenly it's found dangerous and needs to be replaced with a new on-patent drug. the last thing they want is to compete with their past successes
what's more, many people defend this behavior. of *course* they can't make a car that will last 2 million miles, they'd go out of business! we should instead perpetually waste industrial capacity on increasingly-disposable, fragile, and ever-more-expensive vehicles

I believe trump is (soon to be) in office because a substantial fraction of the actual power elite in america want him there
and I don't expect him to engage in sweeping reforms because those people are all making billions off the existing system
they probably want him to rein in the insanity a bit, tap the brakes, make sure israel is getting infinity money, maybe get some medium-term tech grifts going behind protectionist policies. they don't give a flying fuck about joe sixpack -
