actually this is some of the only legitimate (ie made some attempt at avoiding bias) research I've seen regarding mass shootings. it compared it to a social contagion that spreads primarily via the news cycle. naturally such a theory didn't get much attention from the mass media outlets  -

I'm not sure what you'd find tho. probably going to be difficult to even select metrics to use. do you account for price in terms of quality versus dollars spent? do you weight by how many copies a game sold? do you split different regions out? do you differentiate perception of game quality by subpopulations within a region? particularly age groups
but anyway you could have people score their perceived quality of a number of different games and examine that for trends in the market over time -

> for asserting objective qualities
but I don't think anyone is doing that? an objective observation could be made about a subjective quality at the population level over time. that observation would be objective but the quality it is observing remains subjective -

if we're talking about fiat, if and when that actually happens just print yourself out of that hole. but I'm not sure it's a significantly different failure mode than the ultrawealthy lending out and collecting rent. at the end of the day value within society is ultimately relative -

... because M2 is expected to have zero correlation with inflation. and/or various governments didn't just print record amounts of money during covid. riiiiiight -

the obvious issue with printing "too much" money is excessive inflation. what constitutes "too much" is open to interpretation but I think most would agree that we're well past anything that might resemble it -

> the total amount of debt needs to increase as the economy grows in order to prevent a deflation
deflation is only really bad if it spirals. inflation can get out of control too. I think the bigger issue is that it incentivizes holding on to cash. a low level of inflation provides a certain set of incentives that are convenient if you want to maximize GDP at all costs -

> do taxes actually change the budget under a regime that prints arbitrary amounts of money
a fair question
> All it does is punish people who can't wash their carbon usage
it intentionally distorts the market to disincentivize some class of behaviors. that part definitely works as intended
but yes, such taxes generally disproportionately impact the people at the bottom -

an environmental externality tax that could only be spent on efforts to remediate those externalities would be a different beast -

can we prove that tho :think_nyan: seems odd that qualia would just spring into existence out of nowhere all of a sudden. so surely primates should be at least marginally conscious, whatever that word means? and I guess mammals would be expected to be ... -
