@Moon I think authorities lie their asses off so they don't release any info that upsets the liberal zeitgeist. Look at how quiet they've been over that school shooter in Tennessee. FBI and local authorities supply the bullshit, NYT applies the spin.
@mrsaturday I hate that it works. the nyt is basically the daily mail. they know they can just say a lie and it will do damage before it gets refuted and they know they've accomplshed their goal
Before that there was the one blog where someone analyzed the released documents and did research to basically try to analyze "why" and what the author found was that Adam had a single Wine Aunt genotype mom leaving her piece of shit kid to his own devices and giving into his every whim, while being unable to handle herself and her crazy kid.
@PhenomX6@Moon The actual motive behind Sandy Hook was fucking creepy. He fetishized childlike innocence and was trying to save them from being corrupted by adulthood. I thought he was just some retard, the chat logs that leaked showed someone eloquent but insane that spent WAY too much guy in his own little world.
Well see the thing with shooters that people do want to copy is that there's a reason for it.
Adam Lanza had none because even though he got the high score, he was also an extreme shut in.
On the other hand there are plenty of crazy people who look at Eric Harris or Dylan Klebold and think "wow he is literally me". The idea of a bullied kid rising up against the bullies is something that appeals to someone very broken, and Nikolas Cruz (the dude now seen in all the interrogation memes thanks to the video about his interrogation) was actually bullied. The same went with the STEM academy shooter who got mocked for trooning out. Eric and Dylan aren't just some faces on TV anymore, they're embedded into culture in the same way prohibition gangsters, Uncle Ted, and Che Guevara are. Except instead of people wearing shirts of their faces, they "steal their look".
Nobody is going to want to copy the "depressed withdrawn loser with garbage bags over his window" aesthetics when there is nothing really to copy or relate to, but there are plenty of people dressing up as the Columbine shooters simply to be edgy. Sure the fashion they had existed earlier (Natural Born Killers and 90s industrial groups come to mind) but schools began to ban trenchcoats after it.
Or the political shooters/jihadists who feel they are doing it for the cause. They're copying it because they want to send a message and do it for "the cause".
> under the guise that there would be copycats (there weren't)
actually this is some of the only legitimate (ie made some attempt at avoiding bias) research I've seen regarding mass shootings. it compared it to a social contagion that spreads primarily via the news cycle. naturally such a theory didn't get much attention from the mass media outlets
@mrsaturday@PhenomX6 so like the trans shooter isn't representative of trans people but the problem is the people in charge already have promoted the idea of stochastic terrorism so now it's really easy to frame individual killers as systemic in every case.
The theory is that they're afraid of releasing it because the manifesto could say that it was done because of "transphobia".
Case in point: "According to the probable cause statement, McKinney said he was born female and is still in the pre-op transitioning phase. McKinney told investigators he targeted students he hated -- including a specific student who had always made fun of him, "hated him," called him names and said he was disgusting for trying to be a guy. McKinney said he got Erickson involved in the plan the night before via Snapchat." https://www.cbsnews.com/colorado/news/alec-mckinney-devon-erickson-stem-school-shooting-probable-cause/
