    @thatguyoverthere I wouldn't bother with conditioner. You would use it to make the grain look more consistent with stain in a softwood like pine. Even then it can actually worsen things.

    Alternatively, if you're just going to paint it anyways, you can seal the wood with shellac first. Various types of paint will adhere well over a shellac base.

    I like in such a moist climate that I have to be careful with a linseed oil finish. The cure time is too long and if the ambient moisture is too high, it always comes out sticky. But it's easy to reapply as the piece ages.

    I've never used teak oil. Tung oil has a much shorter cure time. Like a few days compared to a few weeks, potentially.
