looking good so far, but I definitely didn't buy enough paint. I wonder if hitting it with conditioner first would have made a difference the way it would with stain :thinkingcat:

much better. I might sand it and hit it one more time before I put it away.

also it seems conditioner doesn't help but the obvious use primer answer is there. This paint has primer mixed in which seems all the rage these days, but I think applying primer BEFORE paint is probably smarter since you can then use less paint. I don't know, but this is starting to look like something I'll like having in the office.

@thatguyoverthere I wouldn't bother with conditioner. You would use it to make the grain look more consistent with stain in a softwood like pine. Even then it can actually worsen things.
Alternatively, if you're just going to paint it anyways, you can seal the wood with shellac first. Various types of paint will adhere well over a shellac base.

@kekkerel yeah I didn't put any conditioner on it, but I was curious so I looked at what others said. I am more familiar with how to stain and finish hardwood (and pine) from my days doing hardwood flooring than I am with painting which was definitely my Dad's specialty.
