bad feels can hurt. imagine some guy making the Taylor joke about your daughter. or posting the AI porn. you'd punch the fucker. instead people like Trump get looked up to. it's so weird.
part of #darkpluralism would also be a strong bias towards anonymity and assholes. IRL when people discuss things, we don't call each other slurs and tell them to die. we don't do hell threads. we developed IRL ways of interacting over time cause they work best. maybe something else would work better online. but your current proposal would just mean fewer people participate and they tend to think more like you than the average person. unintentional? IDK
the world doesn't use BBSes/USENET. afaik those are closed communities that attract certain audiences. FSE can defederate if it wants. I want a world where everybody feels welcome on fedi. like someone feels welcome discussing issues in public places. we compromise to do that, especially if we want people who disagree with us to feel welcome. we try to find ways to say things people might not want to hear in ways they might tolerate. that's the full ask.
A jury found Trump guilty of civil battery. I'm unclear if that directly translates to what the judge said though. but Trump is still claiming nothing happened, which makes sense cause he still claims he won in 2020.
with AJ, he lost those cases cause he refused to cooperate. that allows him to claim he was not treated fairly, but just imagine if that was a valid way to avoid following laws. people who accept his argument are idiots, insane or willfully ignorant.
OJ was found not guilty on the criminal charge, but then forced to pay over $30m on a civil conviction for wrongful death. Many years ago. Not overturned.
humans get power by working together. to define your group by something you can choose to be part of or not, is quite different than one assigned at birth. it's still not great when you're creating an other, but lefty approaches do tend to allow groups like owners to give up their wealth and join the worker movement. and I'm a big believer in liberal democracy, not these systems that tend toward tyranny.
all the people who say just mute them are basically anonymous, don't post anything personal or take lefty stances. Adam has no choice but to be public. He doesn't want to hide. So he got tired of this shit. Imagine if he wasn't becoming religious but transitioning. You guys all seem to be unable to consider the experiences of others. I'm against too much fediblocking but servers that federate with servers full of harassers will not be popular.
cause you're on dark fedi. you're fine with people jumping into other people's convos to say die nword (or at least won't moderate for that). most are not. it's reasonable to not want to federate with servers that have users that will do that to their users, given the chance. but what Adam says about there being too much censorship is also true. we need a middle ground (free speech but no assholes) and I dream of NAS3 I guess making that case.
I like what @John said about #NASgate on yesterday's show. The second wave of people who joined NAS fucked up the whole thing and a little moderation is all that was needed. Makes me wonder if we couldn't boot up https://noagenda.social with mods and just some clarity that it's run by Dvorak, removing @adam from any responsibility. @eriner should have the domain. without moderation, NAS2 is just gonna be a shit show too. with moderation, it might get to federate widely. https://pca.st/episode/85c095f9-9046-410c-8f68-a6b22cb9a675?t=9405
I think I now understand what Adam was complaining about. I follow 1k accounts but they are mostly on servers I think you're fediblocked from. Most of them rarely post but following so many keeps my personal feed lively. I don't think I could get that experience on NAS. If I tried, it would probably be a lot of memes from the same people. The problem isn't NAS but that the fediblocks mean your diets get too concentrated.
mute/block assholes. that includes people who constantly tag you with stuff you clearly don't want to see and those saying things for money. but don't mute/block people just because you occasionally see the information or opinions they post and you don't like it. that creates echo chambers that will make you more misinformed and closed minded. just don't follow them.
I would like less server blocks. more good faith disagreement. imo the compromise is dark fedi servers that don't want to be defederated, not tolerating users who harass people. posting crazy or even mean shit should be tolerated as long as you don't @ people with stuff they probably won't like. it's obvious etiquette people understand IRL. do what you like with friends etc. obviously there will be some edge cases but most of this is pretty obvious.
