Right now I am reclined on a European leather sectional sofa that I bought in my 20s in a move that seemed to be extreme and stupid at the time but was probably one of the best investments of my life. I certainly didn't pay full retail. I will probably be able to hand it down to my grandkids

Until that point they had nothing to do with my life and I has nothing to do with them. I have never incorporated them into my worldview other than desiring a world without them

1. Almost all of us can only use the language that we are given to describe the world around us, and further, the vast majority of people are incapable of conceptualizing a theoretical world independent of the models provided by others (and that's okay)
2. The ideas we consume - in church, on tha TeeVee, via radio, podcasts, streams, video, vidya, conversation, reading, journaling, etc. - are usually consumed uncritically, which is worsened by the manner by which they are consumed. Logic is rarely involved. "Memetic triage," as the Judge once put it, is critical, because...
3. Beliefs and attitudes which are portrayed as "high status" are typically incorporated into our world view, whether consciously or not, and whether or not we consider then a part of our beliefs or ideology (the latter is fake, gay). As humans are social creatures who typically crave community and position on the social hierarchy (yes, there are exceptions), relating an idea to status is probably the easiest way to bypass reason and critical thinking
4. The surest sign of the midwit is an individual whose "beliefs" are untethered from the outcomes they claim to desire. That said, the only way for us to evaluate an idea and to determine whether or not we believe it is to relate it to the outcomes we ourselves desire. If we cannot understand the ramifications of an idea - the outcomes resulting from incorporation of the idea into our reality - we will never be able to understand it or connect it to real world results
Example 1: "I'm not a racist - each person should be judged as an individual"
Example 2: "My daughter is off to college. Her goal is a career in finance. Gee, I sure want grandkids"
Examples 1 and 2 are observations by people who consider themselves "conservatives." They have never parsed the word they self-apply and in fact wouldn't know how to parse a word -

"They say they want to have kids and she froze her eggs, but I wouldn't eat a frozen egg, so the idea of successfully fertilizing a thawed out 15 year old egg doesn't seem feasible." I explained that success rates are abysmal and the purpose of that technology was never to succeed but to get generations of White women to not have children. They knew that I was right immediately

So the shell game that collapsed back then was painful but the stock market wasn't based upon tech stocks then as it is now
If they had thrown in the towel in 2008 and started over they may have had a chance, but instead they erected new scaffolding to prop up the money machine, based on completely false premises -

@WashedOutGundamPilot @chainsaw_appreciator Many moons ago when I was vagabonding around Europe the grils generally stayed honest about the situations they had avoided and realized that they were opening themselves up to a lot of risk. One gal told me about a Moroccan trying to force his way into her train cabin - she had to lock it and call for help on the service intercom. In Barcelona I was down by the beach with a gril, smooching, and a pack of males came by, Spaniards so less dangerous, but I had to deploy knives and walk aggressively toward them telling them what I would cut off them. The north Africans were the worst because they would basically wait for you to stick the knife in them before they'd back off. I can't imagine how bad it is now
