    When they got Flickr, they basically started imposing limits on free accounts, so much so that the photography community has left it entirely.

    Imagine being on a social network that limits free accounts to 1,000 posts. That’s what Flickr did and still does.

    Discords are good for appealing to your active participants. If your business depends on active participation (i.e. you're a streamer, content creator, multiplayer game developer), Discord is one of the best way to indirectly keep that activity high.

    It does have the side effect of being more hostile to more passive consumers of your content because unlike a proper forum or such, it locks content behind active participation in a community that is not searchable by common web search engines.

    Is it open registration now?

    I figure a reason you might want to sign up on Mozilla would be because the admins are paid to do a job rather than live drama on fedi. Also, so far every proper business ran public Mastodon instance hasn't shut down yet compared to most volunteer ran ones that shutdown after a few months.

    It's interesting to me that the instances that block Mozilla for being corporate on that link are blocking Mastodon.social not for corporate (since it's the same kind of non-profit), but things like "too big" instead.

    Before. He passed away during COVID, but he was diagnosed years prior and had nothing to do with COVID.

    It's absolutely absymal in the UK -- My father caught cancer and it took them years to diagnose the problem, only for them to tell him that he should have come years before for a diagnosis (which he did, but all the specialist referral appointments kept getting delayed and taking years), they said it was too late, the cancer is too far and it's terminal. He died in terrible pain.
