Finished reading Prometheus Rising, not sure I'd recommend it. I think if you struggle to understand how Mazlow's hierarchy of needs factors into social & political situations it would be informative. The author has some pretty whacky ideas in hindsight. (He predicted that we'd have commercially available life-extension technology in 2005)
Big tech promising to censor less isn't an argument for more censorship. Lots of people going "mask off" about their commitment to top-dowm narrative control.
I’m no “techno-optimist” because I know the details matter. I’m no “techno-pessimist” because I can see how much potential is needlessly wasted.
I wholeheartedly believe the way forward is with equal parts courage and skepticism. Without courage, you’ll never try to improve anything. Without skepticism you’ll fall for every half-baked failure that comes along.
@xianc78@gameliberty.club To be fair, Covid was a traumatic awakening for many. Theres a huge difference between learning about corruption and abuse over decades vs seeing it all for the first time ever up close. People forget that a side consequence of forcing people to stay home is that many had nothing better to do than deep dive why they were doing this to people. I think many people "overdosed on redpills" and that's going to have a lasting effect.
But I'll go further. So much of our "post-pandemic" experience is shaped by decisions, policy choices, and devastation from what was done during those years. I can empathize with those who don't have the luxury of "moving on".
Now for the edgy part. Libertarians (and anarchists) have very little to offer people when the problems have reached such a level where even those who would be otherwise insulated from the problems are now desperate for a quick fix. Abstract principles mean very little when all the people know is misery and betrayal. Those who aim to defend liberalism and our so-called democracies should really consider where things went wrong in 2020/2021...and what their role in it was.
I'm seeing Zano being shiled like crazy. Is it decent? Last I looked it was pre-mine + PoS which is a red flag for me. I'd love your thoughts @sun@shitposter.world@silverpill@mitra.social
Elon is a hypocrite who has a Xitter funeral dirge for birthrates every week while also personally contributing to broken households, nontraditional lifestyles and families, psychologically damaged children (he also uses them as human shields/props when convenient, thanks Luigi), while refusing to pay his workers a living wage while working them to the bone. He wants to gut every institution and agency that works to make the citizens of the American nation have the skills and knowledge necessary to become highly skilled workers in the first place, all while being the product of an extremely expensive private school. Then has the gall to blame the people for their problems, as if we live in Rapture.
