    Appetitive stuff reflects appetites and desires.

    It really depends on how the stuff is used...

    Sex can be wholesome; promiscuity and manipulation are not.

    Wholesome means functional and healthy stuff, so it is not as exciting as the appetitive stuff on the surface.

    Plato refers to philosophy as the pursuit of wisdom, and I see wisdom as the ultimate wholesomeness (and evasive at times).

    Indeed, very true. The ideas of balance and proportion are central to wisdom.

    The Buddhists talks about the "middle path" which is a similar idea.

    Navigating down the middle of the inevitable human false dichotomies...

    We have a bell curve again, because everything seems to fit a standard distribution at some point.

    Some seek wisdom; some hate wisdom; most are a mixed bag.

    But the desires always attract more interest from a crowd.

    The ladies in the community I grew up in used to meet in the afternoon and have bull sessions. Every major topic in philosophy got hit regularly.

    Men used to meet up in clubs, smoke cigars, drink cognac, and talk about the world of ideas.

    Me too. I like group interactions.

    The ladies in our community did these great meetings with coffee, tea, and this cinnamon cake that was unbelievable.

    They would knit, chat, crochet, pass along books, etc.

    It was vital to our civilization.

    In my experience, all philosophy leads to the rest of all philosophy.

    It is as interconnected as an ecosystem.

    And yes, they were cosy. I did not get to participate BUT the leftover cake was great.

    But, the big point for what we're talking about is that these ladies did talk philosophy.

    Not in the usual words... but they covered everything. Meaning of life, epistemology, ontology, eschatology, aesthetics, you name it.
