@sim@lina@mangeurdenuage >Yeah, not even I know what it means these days. Go to TWKN and see the opinions your average mastodon.social user blabs out. Democracy is based 100% on how much you agree with them.
@NEETzsche@meso@thelioma@p@revvy@coolboymew This is very, very true, but it can also be a good way to gatekeep. What's doubly funny about it is a lot of them use slapped-together shovelware in their workplaces, since companies are run by tech illiterates that only care about who's the low bid rather than what works best.
I think a lot of it's that, thanks to Jobs, what you have and what you use technologically has become a status symbol. IRC on the PC? Okay, Grandpa, better to use Tiktok on an iPhone.
@coolboymew@thomasroiloup Fair. You could try to create your own separate apparatus outside of the mainstream and build steam from there, and use buttcoin to keep the lights on, but it's hard to compete with Polygon which is functionally owned by the US Democratic Party. SWIFT deplatforming is such a horrible gamechanger that I don't have any good answers.
@coolboymew@thomasroiloup TotalBiscuit didn't die of cancer, he ODed on his own poison pills. GG's problem was the same with most grassroots movements, they look for upcummies from the authority they're fighting and rally around them, even if they're leading the movement to uselessness and its own demise. Tea Party was like that, Occupy was like that, Trumpism is like that, the alt-right was like that. Every attempt to create their own went poorly or was compromised. What's left of the old GG attempts to be influential, NicheGamer?
@coolboymew@Moon@why Square made a Chocobo Racing sequel that contained a freemium model and a season pass system. It then made it so all of your games were online in a tournament format so you were bound to lose to someone that paid more than you at some point. The free game gave you a base set of roller skates or something that were good for getting top 3 in the first round and losing in the second round, and any unlocks you did earn in the free game were locked behind a $60 premium purchase. They shut the servers down not too long ago. Chocobo Racing coming back should have been a bigger deal, but Square's greed ruined any momentum the game may have had.
