But as a coder I consider it incredibly detrimental for my uses. I find it fruitful to get away from it in my coding tools! That's not a protocol I'd personally want to use!

(Though I guess it could be argued issuetrackers are a fuzzy line...)

@RyunoKi @mangoiv @forgefriends Personally I hate this aspect of GitHub, it is distracting... And makes it harder, not easier, to find the worthwhile code!

But personally I'm more interested exploring potential enhancements to the web which benefits than code collaboration.

Adding a note to my response acknowledging this.

Only complaint I have with this blogpost is a brief mention of "trolls". I reckon those people were sincere, just spooked by the very notion of opt-out analytics. But it responds constructively to those of us who did likewise, many of whom share our opposition. I can't expect more.

IMO, which you didn't ask for, the real power is in the Fedi aspect.

In scifi films we see people connected seamlessly. In reality, we are in silos and stuck with platforms.

I just imagine watching a movie or show where a character says, "Hold on, I have to make an account on the platform, then submit a friend request and wait for them to accept it. Eventually we'll have the evidence we need."

I don't know how to deplatform people though.

Running “experiments” on other people without their consent is unethical. If I do that during my psychology studies I’ll be in serious trouble, possibly career-ending.

But tech people just call it a “quick hack”, “user research” or “a/b testing” and think it’s fine.

This bit really gives away the game:

This is not a project to benefit open source. It also supports my spicy take that Rust is a net negative for FOSS because of its toolchain.

I'm committing an assembled function to layout grid for fixed-size children. And realized I hadn't taken into account The Box Model, so shoving that responsibility off onto Flow Layout.

This is something I can test once I get back to CatTrap (after this weekend)!

@scottjenson What's harder has always been recruiting talented devs + UX folks to do the heavy lifting.

Hence my attempts to suggest the kinds of approaches which have historically gotten traction. Specifically what happens when individual devs + UX folks collaborate to do their very best work together.

Because the best results come when you can show your work, right? (Not only what an experience feels like, but how it came to be.) That's what #OpenSource #UX should be.
