It is a pity that #Peertube has never been well integrated with #Microblogging. The primary way we become aware of a #video is when someone drops the URL in a toot, and we open it in a separate tab. We watch while not logged into the particular @peertube instance, thus not giving likes and having interesting discussions in the comments section.

Same is true for #Pixelfed and #Mobilizon etc.

While organically building my social graph for years, this stuff just doesn't reach my timeline mostly.

There's a sad reality where the commons is now in a bad position to fend off a corporate takeover of fedi.

But uptake on BS/ATProto may see corporate interest go there instead, and give some air to AS/AP fedi to mature & evolve more towards its full potential (which is well beyond a Microbloggoverse).

Huge fly in the ointment is freaking Meta, positioned to pounce with an EE(E) whenever they choose to.

Yes, the whole onboarding and #UX story for non-technical people leaves a lot to be desired. Yet I think the friction that exists is not bad per se. It takes time for the #FOSS ecosystem to mature and be able to handle "the scale of the masses" while also able to still support the socio-cultural aspects of the #Fediverse we hold dear. Culture grows slowly, and is only facilitated by having proper technological support.

If the switch from corporate #SocialMedia to decentralized #SocialWeb were frictionless already, then we couldn't handle the influx without losing said culture and see massive corporate takeover on the #Fediverse.

In that light considering the definition of Social Web to be multi-protocol with e.g. #ActivityPub #Bluesky and others fits the bill best.

Personally I discern a #Peopleverse (socio-cultural), a Social Web (socio-technical) and protocols (technical).

@strypey I think it is modeled to a similar repo at Github for "FOSS ideas". It is at Codeberg and not SocialHub for 2 reasons. Main one being that fedi ideas might lead to become FEP's and then they can cross-reference each other. Secondly many folks don't like to participate on a forum apparently, prefer a code forge.

So many things are possible. But they depend on hands, not only brains. I mentioned the other day that do-ocracy is a kind of minimum state of collab before you can speak of a community.

Community may evolve from do-ocracy, an emergent almost natural state, well-adapted (governance, procedures) to the needs of its participants.

@frogzone dunno about the designer, but they are a very privacy-minded person doing everything via Tor.

As for fedi icons.. whether they get popular, find any use, all depends on.. everyone, I guess. There's no one that can authoritatively say "this is the icon". You may campaign for an icon's adoption, that's about it, no guarantees 😄

For Peertube you might suggest the icons in their issue tracker.

Prime example is the guy, Ronald Plasterk, who almost became Prime Minister of the Netherlands.. patented under his name the cancer medicine he didn't invent, then earned 32 million Euro when selling his company. Amsterdam Medical Center and researcher who did the work, got nothing.

Now he resigned his candidacy with a "I did nothing wrong, acted with integrity". And under hypercapitalism what he did is indeed normal, the norm. 😡

To vendor or to fork? That is the question.

Since #Rust Crates.io started giving #RUSTSEC warnings on the unmaintained status of #yaml-rust library, there's a bit of a panic, not in the least because 1,000's of crates depend on it.

Wouldn't you say that the choice of property vs type based interop is one of pragmatism vs best-practice rn?
Where the pragmatic choice is the one that will make general interop increasingly harder, not easier?

For me, I haven't much to say, other than I hope these #BigTech messaging services die in a fire, decentralized or not. Even when we ignore their overly dominant, monopolist positions, their disregard of #Ethics, the #SurveillanceCapitalism Advertising platforms are inherently untrustworthy. #E2EE doesn't mean much either. Look e.g. at this article by @protonmail on "keylogger" injection by #Facebook, #Instagram and #Tiktok ..
