Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 13-Mar-2024 07:11:17 JST Nazo @xtaran @debacle @thomasfuchs @mntmn That is the most modular looking classic laptop I have ever seen. I guess sometimes when you paid extra for the likes of IBM they actually delivered.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 13-Mar-2024 07:11:15 JST Nazo @xtaran @debacle @thomasfuchs @mntmn I can believe it. Presuming it has sufficient cooling, that is the most optimized layout I've seen in any laptop of such an era and I only really know of one today that approaches it.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 13-Mar-2024 07:03:16 JST Nazo @arstechnica I mean so what if a few* children may be incredibly hurt or die. At least the survivors will have owned the libs.
*few being defined as actually quite a lot, but it's ok because apparently children only matter in principle, not in fact if they live in Florida.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 13-Mar-2024 06:44:22 JST Nazo @nixCraft I would imagine even if they had hit the board if they miss the chip itself they risk that some expert could recover data from it anyway.
I don't know much about it, but isn't the old fashioned write 10x or so still effective even on SSDs? I know things get remapped and wear cycling even has reserved parts, but enough writes of random data should fully clear it eventually, right? (Though not sure if 10x is right or not with SSDs. That's from magnetic media.)

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 13-Mar-2024 06:27:32 JST Nazo @nixCraft I love how they start off first saying "tireless" in an intentional appeal to the obsession so many bosses have with the fact that how dare humans need breaks and even to sometimes have to stop working several minutes to pee (HOW DARE!) That was already getting less and less sustainable by the day.

Or maybe we just don't actually know the rules as well as we thought we did.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 12-Mar-2024 08:39:33 JST Nazo @nixCraft I don't know. It's weird. People are developing a bit of a stuck mindset on a lot of things. I thought everyone would mass exodus Facebook when it became known it was stealing info and manipulating people, yet it still controls the minds of older people. I thought everyone would mass exodus X when it was taken over by nazis, but so many are still there... I thought people would already have left Reddit, yet they're still there. People just get... stuck...

If only.

I'm not really even joking. There is no "sardonic smile."

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 08-Mar-2024 08:50:50 JST Nazo @nixCraft This statement is patently false.
LLMs have 0 intelligence, not 4.
But I think it's more important to point out to a lot of people who very much don't want to recognize the fact that it's not even a question of "it has zero intelligence today" but that the fundamental nature of how LLMs actually work means it can never increase either. It will always be zero. Some other mechanism will be needed to produce anything approaching an ability to understand or actually process.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 08-Mar-2024 08:29:58 JST Nazo @arstechnica Unfortunately, nothing will fix the fact that it is an Apple with all the proprietary and willful limitations this means.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 08-Mar-2024 07:09:26 JST Nazo @arstechnica It seems that these days contradictions every single step of the way are pretty much just the way of life for Republicans. I don't entirely understand how they manage to compartmentalize and accept so much without having complete mental breakdowns.
At some point they may start arresting women for not getting pregnant every single time or even for just not having one child per egg (physically impossible.)

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 08-Mar-2024 07:00:51 JST Nazo @arstechnica Isn't aiding and abetting America's enemies in committing terrorist acts and internationally recognized war crimes a thing that is... slightly illegal in the lawbooks?

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 08-Mar-2024 06:45:53 JST Nazo @arstechnica Hopefully they'll get hit with class action lawsuits and the like. But really this sort of practice needs to be illegal just solely in itself with automatic punishments rather than requiring lawsuits.
Sad thing is, I have multiple Roku devices and actually kind of need them. I don't appreciate anything with forced opt in or with opt out only mechanics.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 07-Mar-2024 07:41:24 JST Nazo @nixCraft Is that PER MONTH??? Seems a bit ridiculous. Especially since there are open, free alternatives for most of whatever it even is that people are doing with these things.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 07-Mar-2024 06:45:20 JST Nazo @arstechnica It's potentially a good method for finding things for secondary, better methods (including humans checking manually,) to then check afterwards. There is potential to be useful, but of course it's also necessary not to fall into the trap of only looking for results with it too.
