@arstechnica This would explain a *LOT*. I've always found that their GUI version was very limited and not very good. While it's generally best to use third party formatting tools, when I do use built in formatting I typically do so from a console because it just offers so much more control.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 25-Mar-2024 07:56:49 JST Nazo @nixCraft Oh god. Who sets their browser to always restore all tabs ever and never closes some for 2+ years? That in itself is painful.
It reminds me of seeing my grandmother's browser on her iPad. She can't understand how to close tabs, so every single page she has ever visited is all open in a separate tab. It's such a mess...

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 24-Mar-2024 03:59:12 JST Nazo @nixCraft Well, a DNS adblocker can apply to any browser (in fact, any device that can be configured to point to a DNS server at all.)
However, the problem with this particular use-case is the ads are coming from... Google. Their own servers. That is to say, you can't really block, for example, Youtube ads that way (at least I assume they host the ads on the same servers. Would be dumb to separate them... But then they've done dumb stuff before like starting this whole dumb war.)

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 23-Mar-2024 06:11:12 JST Nazo @arstechnica I'm not the hugest fan of BG3 -- something about it just doesn't vibe with me despite how much I loved BG1, 2, NWN, and others back in the day. That said, I really respect and applaud their decision not to bog the game down with DLC or microtransactions.
One of the really neat things about a game like this is fans can potentially add on to it. It's harder with this than NWN, but still probably easier than BG1 or 2. Decent amount of potential there.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 21-Mar-2024 08:19:25 JST Nazo @arstechnica LLMs could have been amazing if A: they weren't treated like the AI that they are not actually and B: the companies doing them didn't for some reason get this idea that laws, morals, and etc suddenly mean nothing in regards to them and they can just do whatever they want without even a single care.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 17-Mar-2024 13:16:06 JST Nazo @nixCraft It's funny how the "turbo" function was pretty much always backwards and confused people so much, lol. It was meant to mean "turbo is on, this turns it off." I feel like a smarter name like "compat" for compatibility mode or something would have made more sense.
But yeah, this is one serious retro machine. You could do so much with that...

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 16-Mar-2024 16:10:35 JST Nazo @arstechnica No doubt they'll try to make filters for this too, but until such time as the filter system becomes even far more complex than the LLMs themselves, there will always *ALWAYS* be some way people find around whatever filters they try to write.
Until people stop treating LLMs as if they were actually AI, this is just going to keep going on and on and on.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 15-Mar-2024 05:53:51 JST Nazo @arstechnica It is fast becoming more and more impossible to get any phone that actually fits *IN* your hand instead of *AROUND* your hand. Especially if you want it to have something other than some generic low-end Mediatek SoC. I wasn't Asus' biggest fan in regards to phones (in no small part because they have virtually no third party support) but it's still painful to watch yet another of the already far too rare options disappear.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 14-Mar-2024 07:01:56 JST Nazo @arstechnica Do we really have to scientifically analyze the situation? I'm not normally one given to brevity, but, this one really is just short and simple:
people hate daylight savings time because they get less sleep. -
Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 14-Mar-2024 07:00:38 JST Nazo @nixCraft I've never particularly understood that. As far as I've ever been able to find, most metrics have them at no higher of a failure rate than any other brand. It really feels to me like the fanboyism effect got in and just WD had more fans, so Seagate became a hate target for a larger number of people, then others just fell for the repetition.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 14-Mar-2024 06:56:55 JST Nazo @arstechnica I don't know. A number of people involved are probably doing it for the wrong reasons, but it really is a potential huge danger.
My biggest hope here is that this will set the groundwork for a lot of other things. For example, Facebook has long been known to be a major security issue with countless people being manipulated through it and its algorithms even working to help this. The TikTok ban won't fix that, but maybe it could be the first stepping stone.
Or maybe not.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 14-Mar-2024 06:46:52 JST Nazo @arstechnica A "decision" implies a choice is even being made. If you walk up to a mirror with warps in it, if you stand just right the image may look normal, but if you stand wrong it may not. The mirror has not decided to show you one or the other. The mirror just sits there, reflecting light.
We have *GOT* to stop treating things like LLMs as if they actually were "AI." They are not. The key point here is they should not be making "decisions" because they simply can't.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 13-Mar-2024 15:16:11 JST Nazo @itsfoss Kind of looks like Wayland pretty much is the future one way or the other -- whether for better or for worse. Staying behind means more and more potential support issues as software falls behind and such.
Honestly, from what I could tell, Wayland does legitimately seem better. I think it is really overall a positive change. I'm sure it has its own fair share of issues though. Regardless, this is what the community has decided.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 13-Mar-2024 07:37:24 JST Nazo @arstechnica Apple is never going to put MacOS on the iPad. It benefits them to keep it a more tightly controlled environment. In fact, what you need to be careful about is they may someday actually go so far as to replace MacOS with essentially an upscaled iOS.
