@RehnSturm256 @Morghur You'd get use to it after a bit. The hard part is how long you can stay there, lack of heathcare and jobs is hard, though with things like starlink maybe the jobs thing isn't an issue anymore.

@Morghur The American southwest is like this, as well as much of Argentina. A single rainstorm can change the entire environment in a day, and staying passed sundown gives you the best views of the night sky you're likely to ever get.

@Aviz @Meemoo The Japanese are ultra naive. You know how libertarians honestly believe "everyone is a rational actor"? The Japanese are also like this, but a billion times worse. They all believe that everyone will more or less do what's expected of them.

So they don't understand why a person paid to do a job would do it wrong on purpose, in the same way that you don't understand why a black guy won't follow simple instructions during a police encounter.

The oldest Buddhist temples in Mongolia are about 30 years old, sitting on the rubble destroyed by the communists. China has very little archeological history, the communists destroyed it all. Vietnam is desperate to restore cultural traditions and practices that were obliterated by the communists. It's the same everywhere they went. That the USSR improved at all near the fall is the point, the USSR fundamentally could not coexist with those improvements.

America sucks, but it does not make the USSR based. Both suck.

@Remi @MoeBritannica This is starting to make more sense. Anyone surviving Honno-Ji would have been remarkable. I tried finding sources on stuff like that (other survivors, or accounts of survivors), and there was nothing on it... except for sources on Yasuke: the magical teleporting negro.

Name: Cygnus Loop
Constellation: Cygnus

Ahh, it's been two months!!!!

Cygnus Loop is a massive nebula complex, the apparent size of about 40 full moons. Technically, this picture is only of half the loop; the Eastern Veil Nebula is on the left, and Pickering's Triangle on the right. A bit of the Western Veil is visible at the bottom right.

The complex is so large that it does not have one specific discoverer. William Herschel generally gets the credit for the complex, though much of it's details, like Pickering's Triangle, were discovered photographically in the late 1800's. Still, the Veil's are easily visible, even in small telescopes.

The complex is a supernova remnant, left overs of a massive star that exploded tens of thousands of years ago. But the whole constellation of Cygnus is teeming with nebula, as it's right on the "rift" of the Milky Way. You could spend hours looking at it through a telescope, searching for nebula. For that reason Cygnus, along side Pegasus and Scorpius, are my favorite constellations.

What I love about the Cygnus loop is it's colors. They're highly separated in a way that almost looks fake (which is probably why ILNP named a nail polish after it). This is a characteristic of most remnants, but for whatever reason, Cygnus really stands out.

I think a lot of them have this idea that "if your are not overweight you are not happy" (I.E. they think you have an eating disorder, which is another thing I think is silly. We've pathologized watching your weight.)

@AngryWraith @wgiwf I recently listened to an audio book on Jewish history. Something I was somewhat aware of was that their religion deliberately makes them outsiders (I've experience some of it first hand, such as refusing to eat near me because I'm not a Jew).

Something I was unaware of is the dynamics between Jews, Rabbis, and the Christian governments in Europe. The simple version of it is that Jewish communities were extremely oppressive, and not because of the Christians. The rabbis basically had the authority to kill or punish whoever they want in their community when breaking religious tenets, and the Christian governments would look away. Today if a Jew wants to break rabbinical code, there's no physical repercussion. But if a Jew were seen fraternizing with the goyim during this time? It could have very real consequences for him and his family.

I think the Christians were thinking that tolerating this practice would drive Jews into the church, and it did somewhat. The problem is that the Jews who remained Jewish were basically domesticated to be religious extremists, and the Jewish religion is already an extremely xenophobic one. The result is these people don't respect anyone or anything outside of themselves. If it can benefit them in anyway, then who cares who it hurts.

But I've also seen plenty of examples of Jews inserting themselves into the story, or demanding that someone or something is Jewish. Jews love to claim quantum mechanics, for instance, but almost every single part of it was developed by men who were closely tied to or actually Nazis. And I've even seen Jews claim piddly things they didn't invent, like the nicotine patch or video games. It's a very "supremacist" mindset, that nothing anyone else did is of any value until THEY personally did it, even if someone did it well before they did.

So I'm sure Jews were involved with or promoted corrosive things like tattoos, but it also would not surprise me to learn that they just made up that story just to seem more important than they are.
