    Like most regulations the intent isn't likely to be to apply them fairly to everyone. The big established players will have no trouble adhering to them (because they wrote them) and everyone else will be left out in the cold.

    It'll be medieval alright, but not so much in the sense that there'll be a lack of technology as we'll all have to go around bowing and scraping to feudal lords and guilds for permission to do anything.

    If there's even any fines at all. The tribe will pay their protection money and buy the regulators while the regulators go hard against anyone who hasn't paid or committed wrongthink.

    That was the real reason for that micky mouse microsoft antitrust lawsuit in the 90s. It had nothing to do with the unfairness of offering people a free web browser and everything to do with not paying the lobbyists. From that moment on they started shoveling money into K-street and suddenly all the lawsuits went away.

    As I remember it they left him alone after he helped them recover from the L by saying gamergate are the real extremists or something. I kinda figured at the time they just kept prodding them until he gave them a quote they could vaguely salvage themselves with and ran with it.

    Sam Hyde did a parody video threatening to kill Wu and saying he was on his way to his house but cancelling because he rolled his car on the highway. Wu claimed to be in fear of his life due to gamer harassment as a result and fled his home, but then in an interview a day later he was filming from there, so probably just internet theatrics.

    The usual rags did articles about it but eventually worked out Hyde was a clown unrelated to gamergate and memoryholed the incident.

    I used to give them shit for having pointless protest movements all the time, but the fact is, the rights that people have are the ones they practice. When the lockdowns hit the french were one of the few countries with a massive protest movement purely because it was baked into the culture almost as hard as muricans carrying guns around.
