The tribe will pay their protection money and buy the regulators while the regulators go hard against anyone who hasn't paid or committed wrongthink.
That was the real reason for that micky mouse microsoft antitrust lawsuit in the 90s. It had nothing to do with the unfairness of offering people a free web browser and everything to do with not paying the lobbyists. From that moment on they started shoveling money into K-street and suddenly all the lawsuits went away.- Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: likes this.

The big established players will have no trouble adhering to them (because they wrote them) and everyone else will be left out in the cold.
It'll be medieval alright, but not so much in the sense that there'll be a lack of technology as we'll all have to go around bowing and scraping to feudal lords and guilds for permission to do anything. -

Big corps will be able to afford the fines while regular people and small businesses will only be able to clench their fists in frustration as the rest of the world leaves them behind. -

Peter Van Eynde (pvaneynd@hachyderm.io)'s status on Thursday, 30-Mar-2023 23:05:23 JST Peter Van Eynde From reports it seems a man talking to #OpenAI's #ChatGpt chat bot took his own life. The family thinks this is because of the AI convincing the man...
Personally I think that these bots have shown to give bad answers and to gaslight users, so using them in distress or for moral or life guidance is ill-advised and could result in tragic events like this.
OTOH there is a shortage of appropriate help, so people will try this. Who hasn't used doctor Google?
