    I've said before that peer review is a joke, you get to select who reviews your paper and who isn't allowed to review your paper (to some extent). Scientists pay the journal to publish/"review" it, paper locked behind paywall, and scientist don't get any of that money.

    Yeah academia is super cliquey too, groups huddle together to discredit others, mess with their peer review, funding etc. There is some claim that once the professors are tenured they will start branching out into unexplored/dangerous realms more but that's not true at all since they've built their entire careers and reputation/legacy off of whatever normie (generally useless) thing they're researching. After decades of living in this system they won't change since they're scared of being ridiculed by their peers still.

    I saw some of this thread earlier. I don't know if I've seen this much hatred directed at them before, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe this is one the concessions they'll try to give people before asking for more able bodied men to help prop everything up.

    I saw a post from someone down there a few months ago and basically said SA is a lost cause at this point, no one is coming to help and escape isn't feasible for a lot of them. It was pretty sobering and scary.
