    @deprecated_ii @teto testifying this is true yes. Or at least I got responses overseas. I was told by an Indeed employee that the situation in the US is pretty simple:

    - employers post job offerings
    - white and brown employees turn in resume to recruiter firms
    - recruiter firms accept resumes, throw the white ones in the trash and deliver the brown ones to employers

    end result: whites complain that no one is hiring despite stellar qualifications. Employers complain no one is qualified. The solution is you have to bypass US recruitment firms.

    @PurpCat @sneeden I don't know the details of the case but I imagine it probably had something to do with the fact that libraries are state sanctioned explicitly. Do libraries normally have to work out deals with the publishers or was IA just grabbing random shit and lending it?

I assume if the primary motive was profit they would do like X where they've largely shut it off to public consumption and just made it a paypig club.

    @0 thinking about all this ad injection stuff with youtube and the reason normies put up with it. One reason being is that if you have a family/gf whatever, they are generally not indignant about stuff like that. If you are, or go out of your way to block them, it "gives them the ick" so localized social pressure ends up making you just accept it.

    That got me thinking, I don't think I've ever seen a woman running adblocker period, even though doing so is incredibly easy.
