this video d linked me may offer some insight into what's going on in general. The tl;dr being that the current employment standard is probably a long game of fraud and it's currently being corrected by a recession.

I guess it doesn't hurt your stock values to lose half your workforce if EVERYONE loses half their workforce. Being real, they probably all got together in a dark room and coordinated that.
