@PraxisOfEvil What's interesting is you can find some people who agree 100% with National Socialist economics without realizing it. I've got a co-worker who started a conversation about how fractional reserve banking is bullshit and the Fed is evil. I'm determined to never lie about my beliefs, but I've always found that if I describe what I believe instead of put a label on it, people are far more understanding.

@Shadowman311 I saw a pregnant woman at the grocery store the other day. I thought she was going to mug me in the parking lot and steal my shoes, but she just waddled to her car. I assume there were too many witnesses for her.

I won't say that over-fixation on all the terrible things happening in the world isn't depressing. But pretending these issues don't exist is what brought us here in the first place. The social contract was that hard work would result in being able to buy a home and support a family; that if you didn't judge other's by their race, they wouldn't judge you by yours; that what people did in the privacy of their own homes wouldn't affect society; that if you didn't like the way a company did business you could always take your money elsewhere. But none of that has shown to be true.
A man with infinite will can choose to be happy under the most dire of circumstances, but there are few men like this. And still the question remains: if I were able to fully ignore my nation crumbling and enjoy my life, would that be of any benefit to anyone besides myself? How would this existence be any different from a junkie dosing himself into peaceful oblivion?
If you're hungry, it may not be your mood that needs adjusting, perhaps you need food. -

@Tony Becoming anti-consumerist was one of my first real natural awakenings. I stumbled into Kaczynski's stuff a little after that, I think maybe through /r/consumeproduct back when Reddit was only half gay, not fully gay.
Removing the consumerist aspect of society would cure most of its ills. But that would be the same as curing a man of cancer by cutting away 70% of his flesh. -

"Oh, it's simple, you just scan it with your phone and it brings up the menu and you can order through our app there." I laid my dumbphone on the table and just looked at her. Eventually she brought me some poorly photocopied menus. -

One point Kaczynski brought up that's really stayed with me, one echoed by many tech leery/weary writers, is that technology is only initially optional.
I called up a local barber shop a while ago and asked if I could make an appointment. "Online you can." I really hate web forms so I asked if they take walk-ins. "If you sign up online ahead of time." I just want a haircut, why do you need my email address? Why do I need to make an account?
At a job a few years ago they required a security token. I've seen these since the late 90's, so that wasn't a big deal until they told me they weren't issuing fobs, you had to download the app on your phone. I didn't have a smartphone (gave it up a couple years before) so as a team lead I couldn't sign in until someone else logged me into the system.

I went to a large, well behaved 95% White school and none of us would have batted an eye if we heard the school caught fire. Kids don't like school. They haven't for decades (and for good reasons). Besides, if you close a school in an inner city area you're really only cutting attendance by a quarter anyways.
