With my psych I wish I could just say "I'm here to convince to you give me amphetamines. I know amphetamines will solve my depression so give me the pills." but that means I'll be banned from getting Adderall forever so I have to find indirect ways to say that which give me plausible deniability.

If that's your end goal, shoot for an ADHD diagnosis. Say you are having trouble concentrating, constantly find yourself distracted, feel disorganized and struggle starting and finishing tasks.

"Imagine a society that subjects people to conditions that make them terribly unhappy then gives them the drugs to take away their unhappiness. Science fiction It is already happening to some extent in our own society. Instead of removing the conditions that make people depressed modern society gives them antidepressant drugs. In effect antidepressants are a means of modifying an individual's internal state in such a way as to enable him to tolerate social conditions that he would otherwise find intolerable.”
― Theodore Kaczynski

@Hoss @Tony @matty @bot @coolboymew @RustyCrab @ringo honestly, i'd rather live with my depression and issues than be on drugs.
-
Well, I mean depression is one of those things like if your life is shit, of course youre sad? No gf? unfulfilling work? Shitty community? like of course your depressed. You don't need meds you need a new community...
-
Hey, get out of here with that uncle ted talk. Lol It's too accurate.
-
I wish I could relive that "Wait. They told me this guy was crazy." moment I had the first time I read Kaczynski.
-
Same, I researched him in the name of curiosity and tried to put all my judgement aside and was like shit - this guy is onto something...
It honestly surprised me...
-
Many such cases. :marseymanysuchcases:
-
it's one thing I like about fedi - the amount of people who liked uncle Ted lol. I don't feel so alone now
-
It's because it's one of the few places you never have to worry about biting your tongue. I remember getting really drunk once and talking about Ted to someone I thought I could trust and it blew up in my face.
-
Same, I just generally don't talk about it. I wish he hadn't tried to blow people up lol, His work had promise but he fucked it up by blowing up buildings.
-
@RustyCrab @Tony @matty @bot @Hoss @coolboymew @ringo back in his times, yeah, but these days he'd be probably making it big with podcasts and the like
-
@MischievousuTomatosu @Tony @matty @bot @Hoss @coolboymew @ringo he made the point in his paper himself that if he hadn't blown anybody up, we wouldn't be talking about him right now
-
@Hoss @Tony @matty @bot @coolboymew @RustyCrab @ringo his message would have more power if he wasnt a bomber looney
-
He wasn't insane. Though there's some talk about him being involved in the CIA LSD testing so that's a whole rabbit hole, but at the end of the day he gave a solid assessment of things
-
@Tony @Hoss @MischievousuTomatosu @matty @bot @coolboymew @RustyCrab @ringo his lawyer tried to make him plead insanity to get a lighter sentence and he was like
>No.
-
@Tony @MischievousuTomatosu @matty @bot @Hoss @coolboymew @RustyCrab @ringo if you want to fix depression then get off social media, stop watching the news, stop ruminating over politics and people having different tribes, learn to be more understanding of people, practice thinking of the positives and repress the negative ones, restructure the way you think about people and interactions and what success and the purpose of living really means. thinking depression is environment is an age old canary that dismissed the possibility of poor people having clinical depression which lead to them being untreated.
also telling people to lie to their caregiver to get drugs isn't helpful, and burning bridges for the lulz isn't funny it's just self-destructive behavior
thank you for listening to my ted talk
-
@Tony @MischievousuTomatosu @matty @bot @Hoss @coolboymew @RustyCrab @ringo this thread is depressing lol
-
What! Why? lol
-
@Tony @MischievousuTomatosu @matty @bot @Hoss @coolboymew @RustyCrab @ringo apparently in one of his correspondence with anons he said the study he participated in was overblown and it wasn't the psyop they made it out to be
-
I believe it, at the end of the day you had a very intelligent man stuck in a specific environment. Academia is a boys club and he realized it wasn't about the science...
-
@rees @Tony @MischievousuTomatosu @matty @bot @Hoss @coolboymew @RustyCrab @ringo Just because you're not interested in politics doesn't mean politics doesn't have an interest in you.
I won't say that over-fixation on all the terrible things happening in the world isn't depressing. But pretending these issues don't exist is what brought us here in the first place. The social contract was that hard work would result in being able to buy a home and support a family; that if you didn't judge other's by their race, they wouldn't judge you by yours; that what people did in the privacy of their own homes wouldn't affect society; that if you didn't like the way a company did business you could always take your money elsewhere. But none of that has shown to be true.
A man with infinite will can choose to be happy under the most dire of circumstances, but there are few men like this. And still the question remains: if I were able to fully ignore my nation crumbling and enjoy my life, would that be of any benefit to anyone besides myself? How would this existence be any different from a junkie dosing himself into peaceful oblivion?
If you're hungry, it may not be your mood that needs adjusting, perhaps you need food.
-
@Druid @MischievousuTomatosu @Tony @matty @bot @Hoss @coolboymew @RustyCrab @ringo you don't make a difference on the cultural or political stage, all you are doing is rumination, which is a major factor of depression
-
@rees @MischievousuTomatosu @Tony @matty @bot @Hoss @coolboymew @RustyCrab @ringo None of us do. That's one of the issues. We lack sovereignty in the world our ancestors built.
Tell me, why shouldn't I get zoinked out of my gourd every day on whatever drugs I can find? I'd be happier. I wouldn't care about the problems we face. Why should I act well if my actions have no impact on the world? If I can find bliss in a bottle or needle, what's the harm? I don't matter anyway.
-
@Druid @MischievousuTomatosu @Tony @matty @bot @Hoss @coolboymew @RustyCrab @ringo >I'd be happier
no you wouldn't
>Why should I act well if my actions have no impact on the world?
so you can maintain interpersonal relationships, live a nice life, and not be put in a cage
>If I can find bliss in a bottle or needle, what's the harm?
death
>I don't matter anyway.
k
i'm gonna eat

@Druid @MischievousuTomatosu @rees @Tony @matty @bot @Hoss @RustyCrab @ringo
>Just because you're not interested in politics doesn't mean politics doesn't have an interest in you.
This is definitively the source of a lot of fucking problems now
-
@Tony @MischievousuTomatosu @matty @bot @Hoss @coolboymew @RustyCrab @ringo >therefore they as people are not useful to me
people aren't your tools.
-
I agree with you. I burned bridges because I came to the object conclusion the people I was burning the bridge with do not share the same values as me therefore they as people are not useful to me, nor do I want to maintain a relationship with them.
So I burned the bridges. I don't burn bridges unless it is the right choice. In this instance, it was the right choice both morally and politically. I do not care if that specific owner cares.
-
No, they aren't, but on a moral level I did not agree with the way the business was run. The owner had severe disregard for employees, encouraged unhealthy working habits and was willing to subject his employees to abuse. I will not condone a business owner who objectifies and fucks his employees for his own gain.
If you purposefully abuse your employees and fuck them because you are the boss, I am going to fuck you.
