As the translators get worse, they'll increasingly violate the expectation that subs should align more closely with the spoken language. What I complain about with light novels is mostly the they-they-they degenerate dialect of English that translators like, but I've very occasionally wondered if an entire theme was removed or altered, and light novels don't have the easy anime backup of listening to the what the Japanese means. -

@WashedOutGundamPilot I once helped with a programming class for a technical course containing men and women. At the end of a lesson, the professor gave the class a simple function to write, and a few cursory tests to run it by.
A woman managed to implement the function in a way that passed the tests but that would fail for about half of the domain of the function. I pointed this out. "It passes the tests." Yeah, but--
She gave me look. Annoyance? Disgust? Contempt? "Go fuck yourself and stop bothering me, I'm done here, I don't give a shit about what I'm doing beyond technically meeting requirements"?
It was a look that a man couldn't give you if he tried--and never would have, because even if a man thought I was completely wrong, I would've offended his pride in his work by suggesting he'd made a mistake. This woman should've been taken out of the class and her facial expressions weaponized so that they could be deployed on command to America's enemies. It's a look that, thanks to Pfizer and Moderna, could probably reliably kill people today. -

Like Wyatt, he's just enjoying the war, and he'll move on to talking about how much the US has benefited from testing our tech in advance of the next, more exciting war with China. All the NAFO people will produce final reports on the successes and lessons-learned of their open-collaboration social media propaganda campaign. US politicians will go back to exploiting to grinding their usual axes, and particularly getting real excited about this 'inflation' thing that keeps mysteriously getting worse. Military contractors are going to get paid. Hunter Biden will find another part of the world to get a fake job in, with a successor "big guy" through his friend group taking the 10%.
The only people who will show any interest in the state of things in the Ukraine, after this, will be the people who expected Russia to win. -

For example, you might want a disorganized factional military because you're more worried about a military coup than you are about actually ever needing the military to defend the state from serious aggression, because you're the United States and have oceans between you and every remotely hostile force.
And you might be legitimately worried about a military coup because you're a Democrat and your party's been infiltrated all the way to the VP by crypto-Communists. And you might *especially* not care about having an effective military force because it would be used against Communist countries. -

@LouisConde not so! We're much worse off than in 1958 thanks to our heavier burden of programs, spending, laws, doctrine, bias, and miseducation--all heaped on our backs to solve this problem, without anyone caring that the problem didn't get solved.
That's not a timeloop, but a continuous decline. And the same kind of blindness it requires, to never ask if the results of any program were achieved, has metastasized like cancer. The sanctions did literally nothing to stop the Ru/Ukr conflict--while striking at the heart of global trade, while pointing and laughing at people for "foolishly relying" on foreign services--and the only reaction's been to make more and more sanctions. Masks, vaccines, and social distancing are still widely believed in. -

Of all the dogs for people to hyperfocus on, why is it the shitty suddenly violent one that was bred for fighting? Oh gosh your future face eater is nice to kids? Have you heard of OTHER DOGS? They're generally very nice to kids as well!
It really has to be a humiliation ritual. Dogs are clearly bred for different purposes, and that offends spiteful mutants, so everyone has to drown in the worst dog.
