@coolboymew I saw this at the grocery store. and a guy in a Hatsune Miku t-shirt. and a car in the parking lot with a Demon Slayer sticker on it.
I keep forgetting that anime is popular with normies now.

@noyoushutthefuckupdad that's a precure

@ChristiJunior @coolboymew the one upside is that more stuff gets translated into English now. the downside of that upside is that those English translations are often gay and wrong.
-
@noyoushutthefuckupdad @ChristiJunior @coolboymew and note: both of those are translations. As the translators get worse, they'll increasingly violate the expectation that subs should align more closely with the spoken language. What I complain about with light novels is mostly the they-they-they degenerate dialect of English that translators like, but I've very occasionally wondered if an entire theme was removed or altered, and light novels don't have the easy anime backup of listening to the what the Japanese means.

@noyoushutthefuckupdad @coolboymew "I keep forgetting that anime is popular with normies now."
And that's a bad thing.

@noyoushutthefuckupdad @coolboymew My mom bought me a shirt of Naruto eating ramen because she knows I like ramen. You used to have trouble getting things like that at Hot Topic, but now I know so many anime plots from cultural osmosis that I would have been quarantined me in a rec room 20 years ago.

@PorkCow @noyoushutthefuckupdad In a mall nearby, I was able to print the Jojo's logo on a sweater, and not far from it, there was a weeb shop where I got a classic Sailor Moon deskmat
Crazy

@PorkCow @coolboymew I spent the 90s watching gook toons and I know exactly what it was like when they were exclusively for hypernerds. I even watched Dragon Ball fansubs before it became a mega-hit on Cartoon Network.

I think, the problem is not about normies but about anime, which was a mistake destined to become popular among total normies.
Who would have thought, people will like colourful toons feeding them with experiences people have lack of.
Marvel tales about Wakanda are not enough, normies want to see something more slice-of-life'ish, which is also just a fiction, fiction about comfortable male or female archetypes real society has lack of.
We may live to see media franchises produced via cooperation of USA, Japanese and Chinese publishers. Those media chimeras will consist of anime art-style, social justice, "le references to pop-culture" and topics legal in Chinese jurisdiction. Those thing will be outsourced to artists somewhere in Eastern Europe (or random anime-furry artists from deviantart) and distibuted via streaming services. I fucking guarantee that.
Wait a minute...

@Resident_Evil @ChristiJunior @coolboymew ero-guro is nasty and I don't want to look at it.

@ChristiJunior
I think, we need more guro hentai anime breaking normality and having horrors beyond our comprehension. I hope, those brand new AIs everyone keeps talking about will help the screenwriters with that.
