@r000t Chris-chan isn't in jail. DSP survives all. Boogie had a female servant for a while and easily overcame a deadly blood cancer. Too many examples like this and kids will start intuiting that becoming a lolcow is a good way to a resilient lifestyle.
Rekieta is not even a proper counter-example as he has the unrelated curses of 1. an open marriage 2. drug addiction 3. putting on the medallion
@lain@sun it's like criticism of landlords. Yes, landlords exist who do good work. I've had extremely good managers that I had a lot of respect for, and I can at least imagine a pretty good landlord. But when people complain about administrative non-entities who get paid to impair function across an organization, it's not a defense of such people to say that good managers also exist.
There will be experiments as layoffs continue. The laid-off can try replacing the organization with an AI.
@sun@lain I've gotten system administration commands from ChatGPT that would work *most* of the time - but eventually completely brick your system.
But even outside of dangerous code like this, non-prrogrammers struggle to solve problems even with an AI writing all the code. With the right questions the AI can even fix the code, but they don't know what questions to ask. This all reminds me a lot of xkcd hopium about how Google would mean that anyone could be an instant expert on any subject.
@sun@lain if you're consistently good at that then people will give you programming tasks, report bugs to you, complain when the UI isn't just so, complain about performance and scaling, and give you both trivial and completely infeasible feature requests without knowing the difference - and you'll just be a programmer, and very good programmers will still be valuable, and those people still won't be programmers even though they could talk to the same AI you're talking to.
If we're dooming I think managers might be a lot more easily replaced than programmers.
@lain@sun a perennial problem for smart skeptical people is that snake oil salesmen and lying grifters are not exclusively features of fake innovation, but will also show up to exploit real innovation. I dismissed bitcoin for a long time because the community consisted entirely of deranged economically retarded speculators who would say things like "bitcoin's value is backed by the electricity consumed in mining it!" AI-assisted programming is being sold as a replacement for programmers in a beat-for-beat repeat of COBOL finally replacing programmers with secretaries because code could finally be in readable English instead of cryptic symbols. Of course it'll get dismissed when the hype's like that.
Outside of parody, Kuleba complained that Ukraine would easily win the war if the US would just hand over a space laser or two. "We know you have super-advanced alien technology! Stop making us fight with Soviet trash!"
@wan@SuperSnekFriend >fetishize "consent" >everything bad has to be bad due to a lack of consent >everything consensual has to be good >everything ends up becoming about consent >an entire civilization's system of mores of standards has to be rediscovered through the lens of consent you can look forward to the "number of children of consent" which is maximum 2, only more than that if a child dies early. and the "heels of consent" which is no more than a 1-inch heel for men, and no more than a 2-inch heel for women. and the "public voice of consent" which is softly-spoken except in an emergency or to briefly get someone's attention and the "homes of consent" which is exactly one. You can time-share a vacation home, at best. Homeless people still exist so more houses is against consent in some incredibly convoluted rationale that only people with college degrees can explain. and if you doubt those people you're violating the "information of consent" - misinformation is violence!

of nothing>I should probably KonMarie these books. moderns feel bad and un-ecological for saying "throw out as trash", so have added a single degree of indirection to the expression to launder the morality of it and exploit one's own natural laziness to not think past the indirection: a Japanese woman told me to throw it out as trash!
@ArdainianRight early-wave = deliberate Sapir-Whorf lobotomization of the public. Nativism isn't possible because it can't even be communicated. Immigrants can't be denied privileges because the immigrants are indistinguishable. current wave = just triumphantly kicking right-wingers in the nuts. Yeah you have to say "they" now about single subjects with a known sex, because if you do otherwise then 1/1000th of the time a deranged person incites a mob against you like Zeus smiting blasphemers out of the blue.
@Suzu there's gotta be some natural law in effect that encourages corps to have as big a flop as possible, rather than a small failure. Games keep going out with a hundred parallel production lines to exploit its massive success, without any waiting to see if it's a success or not.
@sun@Nudhul@Hoss@RustyCrab@creamqueen if you minimize the Asteroids game that came with it, you can continue to play the game in the minimized 'icon' which continues to render your ship, bullets, asteroids, in the pixels provided.
What does Windows have now? Ads? AIs spying on you?
@j@Terry this is amazing. All of their attacks are correct and on-point, but none of their defenses are. It's a boxing match without blocking or even evasion.
@MK2boogaloo Q: what about her? A: she's horny, right now, because she's having sex for the purposes of procreation within a loving marriage. She's not horny all the time. Q: women of other species wouldn't do it right in front of a news crew. A: women of other species don't have to live with these malicious stereotypes! Can't you see that her dignity has been stolen from her? She's just trying to live her life! If you would stop looking at rabbits as horny then rabbits wouldn't behave like this anymore! Q: would you like to have sex right now? A: only if you're fertile!

of nothing>western soldiers in the Ukraine will authorize long-range attacks with western missile systems I heard that part >this was justified by the NORTH KOREAN MENACE heard that too >the actual justification is to use the missiles against the North Korean soldiers in Kursk what? >the intent is to discourage more North Korean soldiers from having a presence on Ukraine's border ...
All this time I thought the proxy war was between US and Russia. All this time I thought the meme of "SK supplying Ukraine while NK supplying Russia" was just a very funny joke.
But apparently this REALLY IS a Korean proxy war. The tail is wagging the dog! Korean gaming prowess is a vital and scarce resource that has world leaders quaking in fear! Is it because of drones? Is it because of StarCraft? Is Biden actually sweating profusely in his lucid moments over the prospect of "StarCraft in real life" as North Korean swarms swarm towards Paris?

of nothingUSPS (trying to appeal to me with advertising): >look at this black postal worker deliver a package to a black man and his black daughter >here are some more pictures of this family >there's no mother to be found, isn't that crazy? >also they're Jewish! wooow really snatching up that key US demographic of motherless black Jews, USPS. Or the other demographic of liberal women who are somehow impressed by this shit.
more inspiration: The Regressed Demon Lord is Kind
That doesn't have the time loop or desperate struggle, but it does have a very satisfying loop-break, and it's more the feel I want, where the 'regression' is not just a writer's device to allow the plot to happen, but feels more like a character that is part of the story, that's constantly relevant to what's going on, and that the characters gradually learn more and more about as the story progresses.
My progression: 1. oh it's a regression story 2. oh it's a time loop? 3. oh this isn't *really* happening somehow? Is this all an illusion? 4. WTF IT WAS POINTLESS ALL ALONG 5. ok, even though the task was futile, it wasn't futile to try to do it

of nothingfree story idea: 1. a regression/time loop, where the main character tries to avert an apocalyptic event. 2. but, this is impossible. Not 'nearly' or 'seemingly', but 'completely'. The situation progressed too far before the starting point, there are too many different threats. Even if dramatic victories against individual threats can happen, and even if the main character can gain incredible power and skill through repeat attempts, the end is the same: everybody dies. 3. but, this isn't really a regression or a time loop at all. The main character, in reality, is an oracle, experiencing the time loop as prophecy. The main character is also unaware of this. 4. repeated prophecy is a very grave mistake that was only possible because the main character learned of the ability and executed it without supervision. Out of high position, others spoke about the ability while thinking the main character would surely have been taught the dangers already. Out of high position, the book describing the process was easily accessed. Out of foolishness, the many warnings in that book were disregarded. Out of genius, the book was followed without the assistance the writer assumed would be needed. Out of a high position, the prophecy was started with the resources to keep doing it an incredible amount of times. 5. so the story is: an impossible challenge is attempted over and again - and remains impossible, and in the end it was also futile to try so many times because the main character's _real_ starting point is far in advance of the time loop. And, it's also lethal to try so hard because running each attempt is draining. 6. but, even though the overt aim of the time loop - to avert the apocalypse - is absolutely impossible within the constraints of the time loop, in the process of trying to avert it, the situation changes to the point that the prophecy is interrupted and the main character can awaken - in the real world, with plenty of time to avert the apocalypse, and not drained to death by the time loop.
bring your own: 1. impossible conflict 2. satisfying loop-break.
@MoeBritannica >kill you while you sleep a. (normal person) what?! kill me?? You're a dangerous person. b. (suicopath fan) YES PEASE c. (manosphere) every woman can kill you while you sleep. That's the easiest time to do it. This is why you should sleep separately and lock your doors. d. (lonely) the only way you could do that is if we're sleeping together ...? OH. OH I GET IT. YES PLEASE
If you wait by the river long enough, the bodies of your enemies will float by.Splitting words so as to break the force of the laws; confounding names so as to change what had been definitely settled; practising corrupt ways so as to throw the government into confusion: all guilty of these things were put to death.Keep your safety in mind and don't make loud statements for which you might go to the places not-so-far-from-here, because there you will help no one.
