    @cjd It's the difference between a temper tantrum and engaging in asymmetrical conflict. Riots are a spectacle, but ultimately a waste of time if the government and general public aren't that receptive to your cause. What works better in that situation is letting the powers that be know that the cost to implement their plans to replace and oppress you is far higher than the cost of you destroying key parts of that plan.

    Honestly, I'd say The Troubles are the main reason you see that difference. Lots of people that remember what it takes, unlike the UK which is largely a nation of servile bootlicks that accepted one indignity after the next in the name of "maintaining civility."

    I'd like to know what sort of drugs that UK police chief is on to think the American government would be willing to extradite American citizens for cyberbullying British police. American citizens are angsty as it is, and that would give them a target to point that angst at that isn't one another. It'd be a disaster for the government to try.
