There's a reason the UK is in chaos but in Ireland things have largely calmed down. Unlike Brits, the Irish know how to get what they want.

@cjd It's the difference between a temper tantrum and engaging in asymmetrical conflict. Riots are a spectacle, but ultimately a waste of time if the government and general public aren't that receptive to your cause. What works better in that situation is letting the powers that be know that the cost to implement their plans to replace and oppress you is far higher than the cost of you destroying key parts of that plan.
Honestly, I'd say The Troubles are the main reason you see that difference. Lots of people that remember what it takes, unlike the UK which is largely a nation of servile bootlicks that accepted one indignity after the next in the name of "maintaining civility."
