Bricky (thatbrickster@shitposter.world)'s status on Monday, 06-Jan-2025 17:49:24 JST Bricky @taylan I'm still bullish on hydrogen but a hype correction is needed. It was two decades ago when I saw the first fuel cell as a tech demo, now I want ICEs to be modified to accept hydrogen as a fuel source. EVs can sod off. -
Bricky (thatbrickster@shitposter.world)'s status on Monday, 06-Jan-2025 17:49:22 JST Bricky @taylan To me, EVs trade one set of problems for another. They are transitional, a means to an end, rather than a comprehensive solution to sustainable travel at a personal level. I don't hate EVs, I'm just not sold on them. -
Bricky (thatbrickster@shitposter.world)'s status on Monday, 06-Jan-2025 17:49:21 JST Bricky @bonifartius That aside, the batteries can't be entirely recycled and they all look ugly as sin. They want to drive themselves, park themselves, be keyless and have non-servicable parts.
For balance, they have instant torque and serve as excellent explosives once the cost of replacing the battery exceeds the car's value.

Bricky (thatbrickster@shitposter.world)'s status on Saturday, 04-Jan-2025 23:01:06 JST Bricky @Suiseiseki Let me end this tangent by saying eSATA Did Nothing Wrong and is the ideologically superior option.
Let's answer the original question, please. The answer depends on storage space as speed is somewhat correlated on what is needed.

Bricky (thatbrickster@shitposter.world)'s status on Saturday, 04-Jan-2025 23:01:05 JST Bricky @Suiseiseki Both @dushman and I have already given the best answer; reusing an old drive is cheaper and most likely faster than a thumb drive.
I feel sorry for @raccoon. He's probably muted this already, should if not. -

Bricky (thatbrickster@shitposter.world)'s status on Saturday, 04-Jan-2025 22:43:10 JST Bricky @dushman I'm partial to Steve Burke (Tech Jesus) myself. He and his team do investigation work into shady companies, which is worth watching alone. -

Bricky (thatbrickster@shitposter.world)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Dec-2024 08:19:56 JST Bricky @dushman I ended up with a refurb ProBook and for-spares EliteBook this year. I'd say their UEFI sucks ass for not letting me preallocate more than 512MB RAM on pre-G10 hardware (both are G9).
Their customer support is also bollocks, trying to charge me 600€ for repairs that weren't part of the reported fault. They eventually waived the repair fees and sent it back in working order. Only guy I felt sorry for was the field engineer who didn't need to be called out and wasn't told the whole story by his superiors.
I started my laptop venture with business systems nearly a decade ago and that's where I am staying for the foreseeable. I ain't touching consumer-grade hardware where the chances of non-upgradable parts are non-zero. Any extended warranty that comes with business hardware is a plus, I was betting on it to make good on my £300 gamble. It has a Ryzen 6850U, not something found in that price range. -
Bricky (thatbrickster@shitposter.world)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Dec-2024 08:07:38 JST Bricky Update, the EXE can be extracted with 7z and the BIN file contained within is the update file. It contains a BIOS/UEFI and associated firmwares, and must be placed in a special path (i.e. [/EFI]/HP/DEVFW) on a USB flash drive.
Can't say I've previously done that on this ProBook. I got it this year but the UEFI was dated late 2023. HP surprises me again, this time in a good way. -

May as well run the installer and be done with it. I don't have Windows on this laptop so one for next year. -
