I love the movie adaptation. The clearly Californian kid from Buenos Aries. The cast of Melrose Place in a space opera. "The only good bug is a dead bug." It shows how fascism is completely acceptable when your enemy are literal bugs.
It's so perfect because you can't tell if it's accidentally, ironically or intentionally insightful).
People complain it doesn't do justice to the complex themes in the book, but I think the movie is better. The book is boring unless you enjoy military structure porn. (It's like Moby Dick in space ... Heinlein is overrated).
I'm curious. What aspects of Christianity makes you think it's evil at its core? Does it have to do with the seemingly abusive relationship between the Christian God and his followers? The idea of total depravity?
My understanding of Gnosticism is that there is some secret knowledge that leads to greater understanding; leaving Plato's cave so to say. Is that what you're thinking of when you say Gnostic? (It's the basis of almost every modern liberation story: Matrix, The Lego Movie, etc.) If so, what makes Gnostic thinking better?
I think beliefs evolve just like biology. They introduce some justification for a morality, whether it's "don't commit infanticide" or "only marry one person" or "vaccines prevent disease" or "if you rape a girl you must marry her." Certain societies rise and some fail, and the mores of culture that doesn't die off tend to stick around and be thought of as good/correct (whether they really are, or just made the cut out of chance).
I think in 500 years, accepted morality will vastly differ from what we have today.
I mean, there's a source in the wikispook page. It is The Guardian 😩 .. but it is back from 2006 .. I mean it could be propaganda, sure .. but it seems more likely that a CIA backed head of state would traffic cocaine than he wouldn't. :blobcatshrug:
I still read documentation and search StackOverflow when I code. If I ever get to the point where I'm stuck and use a friend's OpenAI pro account, it 90% gives me wrong answers only. I'll spend ~30 minutes debugging its shitty code, only to throw it away. Sometimes I'll jump onto IRC and someone will say, "Oh you can't actually do that. It's because of this limitation <link to bug, code or issue>. You gotta do this instead".
ChatGPT 3.5/4 are fucking awful unless it's already a solved problem. At some point, people who keep using Co-Pilot or ChatGPT are going in end up in court over licenses because of some example code that was ripped verbatim from some other project.
I think the AI art and voice stuff might be pretty useful in allowing smaller teams to get animation projects done faster. There are already tools that will render drawing styles on top of line art as you're drawing it, which should get past a lot of copyright issues. It could help mediocre people make really cool shit. But as far as engineering, no one should trust A.I. to design a bridge.
There is some insane beautiful poetic irony of Drew Fuckhead getting the Kiwifarms treatment ... kinda wonder if it will make him be less of a dick? .. or wait, we're talking about DeVault here ... so of course not.
Also this makes me think of the story of his own hostile dickhead takeover of an IRC chat over a decade ago.
Yea I just got that for the first time. Maybe Stoney doesn't know how bad cuckflare is? They might even just leave him alone. CF actionlly defamed Kiwifarms yet they still serve animal crushing (literally illegal is the US) sites.
Torvalds is on Fedi? And his takes are just as bad as Stallman's it seems.
He talks about "women's right to chose" and yet his own country of Finland limits abortion to within the first 12 weeks and requires two doctor's approvals (most Americans, left to right, do believe in some limits on abortion whether it's the first trimester or the first x weeks)
His country also requires military service, so in that case, everyone is part of the militia (he's allowed to have a take on American laws, even though it's wrong)
I love how he says OP can't define "woke" and then gives a list of things he knows is clearly what the world would consider "woke" .. so he is somehow both simultaneously self-aware and not-self aware.
New atheism was a colossal failure when it came to answering questions about life. That he's a "card carrying" member shows he believes in atheism like a region. Believing there is no god requires you to have knowledge of the universe, making you god and therefore you don't believe in yourself. (I doubt the assistance of god(s), but I'm not a dick about it, or wield it like an ideological sword).
Well, I'm glad all of us can take advantage of the software he helped develop without supporting his world view.
