@coin@futt Yeah DT messed up the instance and had to roll it back 11 days. That's when he decided he was done hosting an instance (something he wanted to try out years before) and he moved to @distrotube. He made the shutdown announcement on 2022-02-08.
I also happened to have my own Pleroma instance at the time, which I didn't really have a use for until then, but I started using it to follow all the DistroToot refugees in case I wasn't able to find another instance in time before DistroToot shut down. Luckily, #Starnix launched so I continued right where I left off, and I had two accounts on the fediverse, and I created more since.
Since then, I've wanted to find my fediverse posts that got lost in the archive, but I recently found them on other instances and reposted the content under this profile.
If you’re in the #EU, they’re trying to pass a law that will ban #OpenSource operating systems including #Linux and #BSD. Since there are a lot of #FOSS users from #Europe on the fediverse, this bill should concern you.
@RL_Dane Ah, w3m. I've used that browser before for a bit, as well as lynx.
I think more applications should design themselves for these kinds of web browsers, especially if they will work without JavaScript. And people should add alt text to images as well since the alt text will be rendered in the place of the images on the terminal.
@RL_Dane It's sad that a lot of websites require JS to function nowadays. Even though Gmail has a view without JavaScript, they made it harder to install 3rd party clients (less secure ones, you have to use OAuth2) and you still have to log into Google over the web. And they require the latest browser to work, which requires you to use one of the big browsers. If you're not using Firefox or Safari, you're stuck on Chrome. Without JavaScript, we'd be a lot more free.
Be thankful you're not on mobile, where mobile browsers don't even support extensions, except for #Firefox, which will still keep Manifest v2 and be able to block ads on Android. On iOS, you don't get any adblockers.
But Google did a trick. Their replacement still allows you to make Adblock extensions, but they won't work as well, subconsciously leading users to believe that they just don't work, and they get uninstalled. No thinking about trying an alternative like Firefox.
This is part of the plan to track everyone and put ads in front of their face, with no way to disable it. You will see the ads and you will like them.
Be thankful #Mozilla still exists and is keeping Firefox alive. Without them everyone will be using a Chromium-based browser, or Safari (but that's exclusive to Macs and iPhones, sorry).
