It was discovered that the foreigners (南蛮) imported by the court eunuchs for labor were not doing any work, but worse, that they were engaging in sodomy (雞姦) while boasting of their prowess with women. Puzzled, the villagers went to the Master for an explanation. The Master replied: “Foreigners, like animals, seek instant gratification wherever they can find it. Just as the dog will rut on a leg as quickly as a bitch, so too will these men copulate with each other. Furthermore- it is plain to see that their women are already very mannish in appearance, and they know little of physiology, so perhaps it is only their nature to take whatever ugly bodies are available and attempt to join essence (合氣) with whatever doorway is convenient.”
A boomer (傻翁) came to the Master and asked, “Why are all my sons, and the village children, so lazy? When I was there age, I already owned a home and had taken a wife into it!” The Master replied: “When you were a young man, the silver mines were still full. When you were a young man, the magistrates were men of nobility and the court eunuchs held no power. When you were a young man, you sold the future of the workers (農) to the merchant class (商). For what end would your sons labor hard? I tell you- you sold out the veneration, oblations, and prayers of your progeny for the afterlife for the comfort of a few decades on the Earth.”
The Master spoke: “An animal bred for war has no place in the home. Thus it is with mercenaries and with dogs. The State that has the former, and the home that has the latter, will soon be stained with blood.”
A stranger came from the great foreign kingdom of Anxi [Parthia] (安息), and with him came strange ideas of violence against the court eunuchs, and new sagas to add to the classic tales. The students were troubled, and asked the Master what to think of this man. The Master said: “His ways are not our ways, and his stories are not our stories. Nevertheless- the junzi is willing to learn all things, for there is always more to learn and appreciate under Heaven (天). Perhaps Heaven has provided us with an ally against the eunuchs. Liu Bei (劉備) took the wild Zhang Fei (張飛) as a brother, and together they fought righteously.”

Рождество BoschA concerned peasant appeared to the Master one day and asked, "How am I to have filial piety (孝) towards my father when he is a boomer (傻翁)?" The Master replied: "Just as the minister must be unafraid to speak up when the Duke's desires are disordered, so must you confront your father when he behaves as a petty man (小人). Filial piety (孝) means that you would will for him to be venerated and given obeisance even unto a hundred generations of your children's children. He will not receive that unless you push him towards manifold virtue (德)." The peasant pondered this, but plied him further, "And what if he will not listen? What will become of my lineage?" The Master concluded: "The substance of gold is not the substance of a mine: it can shine and be treasured even when the other is dark and closed off. A venerable pine tree (松樹) can rise from a seed whose progenitor was felled long ago."
@marlin Anything really- just intellectual challenges/exercises to see if I can make Neo-Confucian philosophy say something about them.

Рождество BoschA magistrate came to the Master and said, "Is it not both consummate conduct (理) and moral (义) to pay one's debts? Surely only a disordered State would promote the forgiveness of debt, for it creates laxity in the soul." The Master replied: "This is why Master Kong (孔子) called merchants (商) the lowest of the four occupations (四民). A dog despises a master who keeps him always on a rope, and a son will hate a father who never lets him leave the house. A plant that remains potted will never sprout (端), much less flower. So it is with a society who can recite only receipts instead of poetry and sacred scripture- it will never again produce great men who will venerate their ancestors."
Huihuo Jing was still furious at the Master for drawing attention to his onanism (手淫), and so he dedicated hours to crafting his revenge. One day he came to the paifang (牌坊) and placed an enormous scroll in full view of the public. On it, he had drawn the Master in a most unflattering posture with a weak chin, mouth agape, and thinning hair. Across from him, Huihuo Jing had drawn himself with a strong jaw, long earlobes and limbs, and a face like Pan An (潘安). The town was in a furor, and all waited with bated breath to see how the Master would respond to such a slight. When the Master made his daily perambulation through the ward (坊), he stopped and looked at the scroll for a moment. His face did not change even for a second. He turned to Huihuo Jing and replied, “I must praise your artistic ability Master Jing. You seem to understand weakness and ugliness implicitly, perhaps because they are your only constant companions, as you are a lonely coomer (手淫者).”
An esoteric scholar came to the Master with his theories on the Dao (道) and the Taiji (太极), saying “Just as a man is the source and perceiver of knowledge, woman is the source and perceiver of emotion.” The Master replied: “Is the pot a great gourmand or cook because it is full of soup? Is a book a great scholar because it is full of knowledge? Woman is full of emotion, but that is not enough to prove that they have mastered empathy (共情).”
@WashedOutGundamPilot@rher You'd be shocked how humane Confucius was in his writings (it's one of the five values of his philosophy) and it's why his followers were buried alive and his books were burned by the emperors, and why draconian Legalism prevailed for centuries. Ironically, Legalism is also why there were so many revolutions (Love the story of the two generals delayed by weather: "What's the penalty for tardiness?" "Death." "What is the penalty for treason?" "Death." "Well, we're late.")
A Legalist scholar was visiting the Master’s school, calling for the execution of all those who did not pass the Imperial exams (科舉) with sufficiently high marks in order, he said, to purify the kingdom. The Master replied, “I must commend your incredible work ethic! Your full genius will surely be on display when you take up rice farming instead of studying the classics. Truly, your wit is better suited to frontline warfare than composing histories, and your fecund mind to crafting cast iron instead of poems! Certainly a State of a thousand shi (士) will triumph over one with a thousand thousand gong (農) and shang (商).” The Legalist left without a word, because he was retarded (遲鈍的). The Master concluded his lecture: “Love the artisan and the farmer. You read by their candlelight and live by their toil. They may not possess your wisdom (智), but they will surely possess your virtue (德) if you show it to them.”
A magistrate, known far and wide as a petty person (小人), sought to show everyone that the uncivilized tribes (南蛮) were no different from the people of the kingdom. When the Master heard about the magistrate's [inevitable] death, he spoke thus: "Heaven (天) will not be mocked. Anyone who tries to deceive the people that a tiger is a cat will find themselves devoured."

Рождество BoschThe Master said, "There are four things which can destroy the State (國家): women, whiskey, money, and niggers." A scholar plied him, "I do not understand, can you make it plain to me what you mean? Surely these are not evil things by nature?" The Master replied: "The State can be destroyed by four things: a woman who believes that her opinion supersedes Heaven (天), rice wine (米酒) imbibed before a decision, the belief that money (元寶) is a substitute for wisdom (智), and niggers (黑鬼) living within the city gates."

Рождество BoschDuring a hot summer season, a prefect (長官) had attempted to arrest a foreign barbarian (南蠻), Din Du Na Fing, for using counterfeit ingots (元寶)) in the marketplace. When the prefect accidentally killed the wild man, the city's foreigners were outraged, and they started many fires. Several students came to the Master, nervous about the conflagrations and looting, and asked what should be done. The Master replied: "What Righteousness (義) is there to come between the corrupt prefects and the wild barbarians when they fight? Both Filial Piety (孝) and Wisdom (智) tell us we should stay home and tend to our families." Then the Master asked what they thought of his new sandals, although he would not say where they had come from. It seemed Heaven itself (天) had blessed him with them.
A court eunuch (太監) appeared before the Master's school to place a Ban (禁令) upon it. He made a great show of having the local magistrate place the document upon the doors of the place, and decreed that the students were fearful and weak (脆弱) and would soon be cast down, as in the dark days of the First Emperor (始皇帝) of the Qin (秦朝). But when he had finished his performance he walked away, and students continued to go in and out of the school as before, as though nothing had happened. The students were puzzled, and went to the Master to understand what had occurred. The Master replied: "The court eunuchs occupy a different world (界) than our world (人間). When they make paeans to truth, they do not mean Truth. When they speak of virtues, they do not mean Virtue. Thus it is with their laws to: they mean nothing to us, because they are phantoms (幻象) of another world." Zixia responded, "So then it does not violate Heaven (天) when we violate their false laws?" The Master exclaimed, "Truly, you understand best what I have said! This eunuch, by accident, has revealed a great truth to you."

Рождество BoschLiu Guan asked the Master: "How should one treat journalists?" The Master replied: "Poets and philosophers write down words to reveal truths. Historians write down words to preserve truths. Journalists, alone under heaven, write down words to hide or destroy the truth. They are lower than a jackal (猺)." Liu Guan nodded, and went home to kill the town-crier.

Рождество BoschSeveral scholars went to the Master to complain that they could not study that day, as the barbarians (南蠻) who lived next to them refused to refill their water clocks and the scraping of the bamboo on stone kept them up all night. The Master replied: "The men of the jungle still live as though in the jungle, where silence is the note of a predator. Therefore they cannot abide silence. To live around those who are still animals, is to live amongst the baying of animals." The scholars were enlightened, and immediately looked for new houses farther from the town center.

Рождество BoschLo Go Dae, proudest of all the Zhenyan (真言) esoterists, appeared before the Master, claiming that he had learned all of truth on Earth and in Heaven and contained within every book. The Master replied, “Oh? So then you are familiar with the words of Master Ibo La in his Hidden Book?” Lo Go Dae boasted, “Yes, of course I have read it.” The Master responded, “No you have not. Because I just made it up. You stupid melon (傻瓜). You blockhead (傻叉).”
