@roboneko @hikari we use WebP for many reasons, including the fact that an animated WebP of higher resolution than an animated GIF or APNG often takes up fewer bytes on disk than either of the other formats. it’s just more efficient.

@roboneko @hikari yeah i was referring to the lossless compression ratio of WebP. and as much as I despise Google, I don’t mind using any corporation’s open source projects. At the end of the day, WebP is useful for several other reasons relating to some of the full stack tech I use. but i was deffo just referring to the file format itself.

@hikari we like to listen to vinyl because it is a more active and experiential form of listening. vinyl does have superior audio quality to CDs, but it is an entirely different medium. improper care for vinyl is actaully what causes the “fuzz” that people equate with a signature sound quality of vinyl. that is not he original, nor the intended, state of a record.

however, as something of audiophiles ourselves, we will 100% admit that FLAC files offer superior sound quality when of sufficient sample rate and bit depth, and require no such delicacy in caring for them. DSD files are also interesting and are recorded in a manner similar to the way a vinyl record is etched. very fascinating.

so our use of vinyl is for three primary reasons:

1. we like to support independent artists by purchasing physical media when possible, and quite frankly, vinyl recording packages look fucking dope. and limited edition colored vinly pressings are very pretty.
2. as mentioned: it is experiential. we have heightened sensory centers due in no small part to autism. by engaging with a tactile form of an auditory input, we feel more engaged.
3. listening to records while working from home encourages us to actually get up, since we have to just to flip the record to the alternate side or place a new one on the turntable.

@errante @hermit For context: Both of these game franchises feature Nazi characters who are integral to the plot.

Wolfenstein 3D came out in the years immediately preceding the formation of the ESRB. Dies Irae came out well after and is only sold in its more recent, censored variant on Steam (although the original R18 version is sold on MangaGamer).

I honestly have a different perspective in regards to this. I think it all ties into the fact that politicians forced the formation of the ESRB, and that the most weeb of games will never get rated—or else will be rated AO and thus be unsellable in many markets, which drives both censorship by publishers and rage on behalf of gamers who rightly abhor being sold a fraction of a game.

@icedquinn @modpod Yeah that’s definitely what we see it as. Similar to thumbs up / like / love on other platforms. When we have something useful to add to the conversation, we share it as a reply. We definitely don’t expect attention for tapping the star.

@errante @bless @marine @netdoll And to be clear, I am not suggesting kink is only used for processing trauma. It is enjoyable in its own right. I should have clarified the prior statement in that regard. The societal implications I mentioned relate to degradation and not kink in and of itself. And degradation can be enjoyable too. I don’t gatekeep kink and sex of a risk-aware consensual nature. Apologies that I phrased the above poorly.

@errante @marine @bless @netdoll Implications for society? Yes. That form of trauma should not need to be processed. The fact remains that abuse is very real, and kink can be highly effective at processing it. Age play is often engaged in for similar reasons.

@marine @bless @errante @netdoll Yes. Fetishizing someone by race and broadcasting that is highly fucked up. I do know of people in BDSM communities that have engaged in race play under the concept of kink as trauma processor. And that has worked for them! But porn of that nature is by no means anything like that at all.

@grumpy Agreed. That is something we have had to learn. The times we apologize—and hope others will—are times we know we/they are at fault. And that happens, even with the best of friends or partners!

But people who hate you for a part of your identity are going to hate you again no matter how many times you reach back out until they finally learn acceptance. We have learned to be more and more accepting over the years. It has made us better people. But we are also open-minded and inquisitive by nature, and acceptance of others who are not abusive has become a mission of ours—as has protecting and advocating for the rights of survivors of abuse like ourselves.

If someone has truly abused you, it is never worth reaching out to them to “patch things up”, from my perspective. Even if they learn to become a good person—and that can happen, although we have never seen it with serial abusers, which makes sense because their right to abuse others has become part of their ideology—they are not worth interacting with. That relationship will forever remain tainted by their abuse. This is merely my observation, of course; but I have never known it not to be the case.

Matters of attraction and identity are often portrayed by mainstream news and social media in general as some nefarious thing people have to combat with “love”. Our headmates desire no such gestures of mandatory kindness for those who are “mentally ill” disguised as love. Our love of 2D characters and identification with them is similarly part of who we are; so those who believe that animesexuality, animeromanticism, and fictives are “fake” are not welcomed by us either. People like that can fuck right off. If it helps folks sleep at night to feel like they tried to be “nice” to us without understanding, they are fools and deserve no place in our lives.
