@lain@meowski "in their function as capitalists" they fund the resources (land, buildings, tools equipment) and inputs (raw materials, transportation, packaging, labor). Even in worker owned coops, these things must be provided for before workers can make the widgets.
I know you know this, but neglecting to say it provides fuel to those who aren't aware that "let's kill the bosses and owners" is a recipe for mass starvation.
When I see this sort of thing, I wonder what these folks think such shows should be like. "Paw Patrol" is dogs using machines to help the community. It is the perfect show for four year old boys--or it was until its spin off show started socio-political proselytizing--instead of the constant hug-and-sing of "Barney".
@coolboymew@ElDeadKennedy@realcaseyrollins Taco Bell is definitely American food, not Mexican. Or maybe a uniquely American interpretation of traditional Mexican foods. But either way, it is probably very different from Argentine food, so opening one there might be an interesting experiment.
Some of them are so extremist that they make natural software freedom allies back away, which is the last thing we need when our devices and browsers spy on us for others' benefit.
@why@lelouchebag I'll start by saying that I'm in the 1946-1964 Baby boomers group. Way back when I went to college, I found that in subjects like politics, even the slightest difference in viewpoint between me and another US student resulted in "I hate you and I hope you die" ... but with foreign exchange students (at least the ones from Germany, South Korea, and various African nations) we'd have sharp differences of opinion and then pool our funds to buy a pizza for lunch.
I think this US attitude has spread over the entire world over the past several decades. Not just boomers, either.
During the past two presidential campaigns, all three sons supported Bernie Sanders, whom I strongly disagree with. 1st son (Gen X) is a typical American, so I let him spout off about pro-Bernie and anti-everyone-else without comment. My half son had never spoken a political opinion to me before, so I let his comment go without a response because I didn't want him to be unwilling to state such opinions. 2nd son and I had a vigorous discussion that modified both of our viewpoints. (They're both Gen Y / Millennials.)
I'd love it if more people were like 2nd son & I instead of like 1st son.
@lain I think the difference is that people are forced to install and use tax software. Whether the NSA uses "freeSPY+", or "proprietarySPY" won't affect most people.
> Shoplifters don't steal formula for their children
Unfortunately, none of us knows ALL shoplifters, so none of us knows why every one of them does it. What we do know is that lots of churches get a flood of people showing up the last week of the month asking for food and help paying rent. Thus, there are often other options available besides theft. And stealing from "the man" is still stealing, so if one is not at risk of starving, they shouldn't do it.
@coolboymewWhen I was in high school, I was saying the same thing. But the one thing I've found useful in my life and work is algebra. Almost everything else in high school was a colossal waste of time, but algebra is useful stuff.
@condret@lelouchebag@coolboymew Not just normies. When corporate cybersecurity folks send deceptive phishing mails, they even catch most of the IT folks.
> They should just be sent back to their shithole countries
But that person doesn't live here and isn't a citizen of here. They should worry about immigration and deportation in their own shithole country. (Or if rumor is to be believed, the country to which they emigrated.)
@coolboymew@Moon Yeah, it was the writing more than the acting, and the Jar Jar character had so much that could have been explored but wasn't. For example, he could have been an agent for the Siths
So I don't hold to the theory "that kid killed Star Wars". Most child actors aren't especially good, but in light of the material, I think he did okay. (I know someone else in the thread probably disagrees, but that's okay.)
