     The thing I’ve come around on is that porn in general is an accelerant for child porn, the more available and destigmatized it is, the more coomers are developed, and the more that go looking for greater and greater fixes because they can’t feel anything anymore.

     Maybe if we legalized cocaine we could put a dent in these alt addictions

     I'll happily tell him he's wrong and that's a terrible opinion, but I still respect him for all his contributions to free software

     @why @lelouchebag I'll start by saying that I'm in the 1946-1964 Baby boomers group. Way back when I went to college, I found that in subjects like politics, even the slightest difference in viewpoint between me and another US student resulted in "I hate you and I hope you die" ... but with foreign exchange students (at least the ones from Germany, South Korea, and various African nations) we'd have sharp differences of opinion and then pool our funds to buy a pizza for lunch.
     
     I think this US attitude has spread over the entire world over the past several decades. Not just boomers, either.
     
     During the past two presidential campaigns, all three sons supported Bernie Sanders, whom I strongly disagree with. 1st son (Gen X) is a typical American, so I let him spout off about pro-Bernie and anti-everyone-else without comment. My half son had never spoken a political opinion to me before, so I let his comment go without a response because I didn't want him to be unwilling to state such opinions. 2nd son and I had a vigorous discussion that modified both of our viewpoints. (They're both Gen Y / Millennials.)
     
     I'd love it if more people were like 2nd son & I instead of like 1st son.

     @lelouchebag over the past ~10 yeras ive seen so many politicized boomers (relatives mostly) roll back their emotional maturity over [celebrity/corporation/politician]'s stated opinions.
     but maybe they were always immature, and i held them to higher regard when i was younger. maybe they were acting mature around me and have let their guard down and revealed more truer opinions in my presence.
     sometimes i think the current time and current event is special one-off exception, but once you start seeing too many exceptions you realize everything is the norm

     I also dont think the answer is a total 100% crackdown on normal porn either because it never stops where it should and would start leaking into other things
