@poastoak @WashedOutGundamPilot It's not quite that. They are being told that their unhappiness is NOT the result of their life choices, that it's something else. Jane and friends are basically complaining that they don't get the good parts of their life choices, AND the good parts of women who took the other path. They want both, and nobody is telling them the universe doesn't work that way.

@WashedOutGundamPilot More economic stress, more desperate women, lower price they need to offer.

It's also telling that they aren't enticing women with the idea of using money to start a business, or a family, or buy a car, or anything useful. They know the kind of person who would donate frivolously has no higher ambition than "I love to travel".

@ArdainianRight @boburtle @grey @leespringfield1903 My theory is that what kept the Silent Generation from having a similar attitude wasn't the wars. It was growing up at the tail end of the Industrial Revolution and all the chaotic changes that introduced.

If you go back and read contemporary young people's accounts at the time of the Great Depression, it sounds a lot like the younger millennials' doomerism. Family legacies were being destroyed with no replacement, but the difference was they retained a stronger belief in the family itself, and the possibility of support that could come from it.

Then again it also spawned (literal) faggotry like the "beat generation" and modernist forms of nihilism. The broader culture just never let that reactionary sub culture overtake it.

@grey @boburtle Yeah, but they learned that from their parents. Boomers went through the same “this stable productive culture is oppression” phase in the 1960s. Older millenials pulled the same schtick too, whining about the safe corporate jobs and middle class lifestyle they picked up before the rug pull hit them.

@Twoinchdestroya @deprecated_ii AI is great when you already know how to do everything, and just need some short cuts or memory aid. Nobody wants to write boilerplate, but you need to understand what's in it before you can skip it.

Inserting AI into the learning process will kill it. You're going to see the same effect that iPad learning had on grade school kids, but 10x worse.

We've had 3-4 generations of propaganda telling parents and students that college was the way to money, success, "getting out of the hood", an easy life, an extra $1 million in lifetime income, etc. You aren't going to get the English majors seething as baristas in Starbucks to work an assembly line by having a celebrity smear grease on their face and pose in front of a factory.

Over half of millennials went to college. Zoomer numbers aren't in, but they'll probably clear 60%. None of them have any respect for the non-college crowd, and most of them already hate any job outside of a cubicle.

Imagine a factory shift manager trying to keep the line going with a quarter of his employees demanding days off for mental health.

Gee, someone should make a resilient, disaster-proof system that routes around damage like that. Some hierarchy-avoiding mesh of computers that wouldn’t be compromised if a single trunk line failed like that. Some kind of inter-connected network, maybe.
If only TPTB had any smart engineers still around who could make something like that.
