@newt@sknvlv@adiz It wouldn't surprise me but I've forgotten now. Not sure if they actually left though.
Until NATO is run by people that think like the commies which probably isn't far off if it isn't here already. I don't think that being under the US is any better as a solution. They have undermined my country. For me, that's a bigger threat. Not that our leaders in Europe don't already help them in this. Wouldn't surprise me if there wasn't some law forcing their hand which was pushed by the globalists in the US.
"The Treaty of Dunkirk was signed by France and the United Kingdom on 4 March 1947, during the aftermath of World War II and the start of the Cold War, as a Treaty of Alliance and Mutual Assistance in the event of possible attacks by Germany or the Soviet Union." How it started, really. Then they added more things on top of it later on.
"Talks for a wider military alliance, which could include North America, also began that month in the United States, where their foreign policy under the Truman Doctrine promoted international solidarity against actions they saw as communist aggression, such as the February 1948 coup d'état in Czechoslovakia. These talks resulted in the signature of the North Atlantic Treaty on 4 April 1949 by the member states of the Western Union plus the United States, Canada, Portugal, Italy, Norway, Denmark, and Iceland."
It's hard for me to view them as a separate issue, when this directly impacts the politics in my own country. It's just another part of it.
@sknvlv@genmaicha@adiz@newt I think the victims are always the people in these conflicts, the people who have to foot the bill, sacrifice their lives for the war effort while the politicians and elites play at geopolitics and steal resources. Future generations will suffer too, the debt for war is large. That debt used to be enough to stall wars. Now governments can just print money and expect future generations to pay for it, kick that responsibility down the road.
@SADIDAS@coolboymew@kumicota@mikuphile "The British Ministry of Magic also seemed to have mildly favoured pure-bloods for many years before it was reformed after the Second Wizarding War, as there were still "pro-pure-blood laws" in existence, which Hermione later eliminated. Albus Dumbledore also once accused Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge himself of placing too much importance on blood purity, as Fudge was sided more with old, wealthy and influential pure-blood families such as the Malfoys, and looked down upon those who had less wealth and more affiliation with Muggles, like the Weasleys."
Looking at this part, I think that you might be right about them being based on the aristocracy. More trying to make a statement about racism perhaps.
@SADIDAS@coolboymew@kumicota@mikuphile Yeah, if it were set in the 2000's then I would not have a problem with that. But it is jarring in how it doesn't fit the time period it is set in... it doesn't seem necessary either. It's almost like an afterthought to be more inclusive in a setting that it doesn't fit in... even if this is the wizarding world.
@SADIDAS@coolboymew@kumicota@mikuphile I don't recall now. I read the books when I was younger, at a point when I don't think I was as attuned to those messages as I am now. I don't know if Slytherin counts as conservative, but they do attract more dark wizards and families more concerned with keeping their bloodline pure. I think the house is more about having ambition. Ravenclaw are more about wisdom and knowledge, Hufflepuff are more about loyalty and as we know, Gryffindor is more about courage. But either way, it makes more sense for Harry's time to be more progressive given that we were then.
@SADIDAS@coolboymew@kumicota@mikuphile "The qualities which Slytherin prized in his "handpicked students" included resourcefulness, determination, and a certain disregard for the rules, along with the ability to speak Parseltongue. He also selected his students according to their cunning, ambition, and blood purity. His House within Hogwarts was symbolised by a serpent, with House colours of green and silver."
You may be onto something. Interesting that he was best friends with Gryffindor before he had a falling out about not accepting muggle-born students. Also, having the serpent as his symbol is often seen as a tell that they are the bad guys.
@coolboymew@SADIDAS@kumicota@mikuphile It's worse... this is supposed to be based in the late 1800's but it reads like it is from the 2000's. The writing just seemed off, especially where they inserted the political identity stuff. Like a woman just casually mentions that she has a wife to a minor. In the late 1800's!
@SADIDAS@coolboymew@kumicota@mikuphile I have the opposite problem, I've been beaten over the head with it so much that I'm basically more attuned to those things happening. Not sure which one is worse.
They've already taken all sorts of aid from here, colonised my country with their people which also made it easier to let the wrong people in over here and their flag flies over here on public property, I also have to listen to prayers for them in churches and hear about them in the news. I got no say on any of this, this is the farce that is liberal democracy.
So, instead, I'm going to laugh at more virtue signalling for the current thing. I feel bad for the Ukrainian people that have endure a corrupt a government and now are wartorn because of geopolitics and the need for stealing their resources. But everything else can fuck off.
@noyoushutthefuckupdad@D00B Normally I would agree. But in a way, it is a moral duty to protect children. If you catch a predator in the act, the child can't protect themselves and needs other adults to do this. We have been too lenient and let the state take over... and more children have suffered for this. The police too often don't believe it or are too corrupt... or even handicapped to do anything. How do we protect children with that?
That's a good point. How much of this is based on the perceptions we have from the media? The media is our window to the outside world, to what is happening in the world... for all the current events. They can really cause fear, look no further than what happens with wars or covid19 when that became a pandemic. It's hard to know how much the media manufactures or copies from their own circle of references.
@PhenomX6@GLFC@PodunkPotato@amerika Yeah, that one can happen accidentally. Especially with a long thread like this one and people responding to it later on. I usually ignore posts and stop replying, posts will eventually stop coming in. If I don't want to engage further for whatever reason.
Although I do get carried away in posts with amerika. Ha.
@PhenomX6@KikiElara@GLFC@PodunkPotato@amerika It's a shame that the feature doesn't just mute a branch in the thread if we just don't want to follow one branch. It would be more useful a feature then. But yeah, with tagging etiquette, you can either mute the thread or ask people politely to untag you. But then it is up to them if they do that or not. Normally people will if you have a good relationship with them in the thread I think. Providing they've seen the post too.
